waking up was an effort
a struggle of the senses
with a reach to my phone
I found it was mid afternoon
I thought what the hell?
next to me was a glass
clouded and half full
like my memory,
I stretched my thoughts
but only flashes and
glimpses came back to me
it had started well,
quiet drinks
bourbon and Cowgirls,
then Father O’Leary’s
with a dash
of Green Ginger wine
Tia Maria was there somewhere
and it all crept up and bit my ass
erasing parts of the night
easing off the mattress
the room swam to tilt,
I edged back onto the bed,
this would not come easy
I was still drunk
resting my head
I grasped the panadol,
I needed water
none was to be had,
biting the bullet
I stood again
swaying and grabbing
at a chest of draws
before I stumbled
to the bathroom
my stomach lurched
and my throat gagged
the fun was coming back
to haunt me,
minutes later tinged green
armed with water
I returned to my bed
laying there I hoped
my memory would return
and with a hangover like this?
I thought it better have been
a good night
from what I have been told?
rambunctious was the times
with good music and great minds
so damn the consequences
I'll be drinking again

"Never again...
or at least not for awhile!" [That's what I used to say].
I would bet that you had a good time. A hangover like the one that you write about, generally doesn't come to be without a little bit of fun. Every once in awhile, I still go out and get futzed. Only about once or twice a year, but I wake up with my eye hanging out, and my stomach feeling like there's a washing-machine in it. With a little bit of poking around in all the participants' memories, I can more or less piece together the events from the previous ten or so hours. LOL. I loved the descriptive way you told about the trek to the bathroom and back to bed. " I stood again.
Swaying and grabbing at a chest of draws,
before I stumbled to the bathroom"
I've had a few of those battles with dressers myself.
Very entertaining! I guess we all love to see or hear about
someone else's hangovers. We know that it will pass
and it just seems so damn funny for some reason. Loved it, and higgest bugs and love to you. ~ Gee
Geezer!

Hi JC
I guess the hangover has long gone! Lol
Well! Vivid imagery - one which many of us can relate to. He he
easing off the mattress
the room swam to tilt, ( I remember those days ). Not so much now.
"..it all crept up and bit my ass So true! ( love this phrase ).
erasing parts of the night.."
"Hangover - The Aftermath" is the perfect title - and your poem tells it exactly as it is - I like the ending because it is the opposite of what we usually say - it took me by surprise. he he

HI Mand
Not so long ago to be honest ;) only last week, it was totally unplanned but I did have a good time, though it all does come at a cost doesn't it, I stayed in bed for a while then I crawled out and faced the day but it was lovely to go to bed that night I slept like a baby grin.
