PUPPETEER

They disbelieve the evidence
and say I don't exist
but I just laugh and carry on
adding to my woeful list.

I am the whisper in the ear
that unrelenting voice at night
egging on another pawn
to do what none can say is right.

You've seen my work in Nordic lands
my winds were reaped at Columbine
and at a movie's first premier.
Perpetrators all were friends of mine.

Manson is a favorite son
Osama now burns at my side
Son of Sam heeded my prods
Wournos attends me like a bride.

And now my latest true convert
ends young lives in Connecticutt.
I pulled the strings, he pulled the trigger.
Lanza, you'll claim, was just a nut.

And still you say I'm just a myth
a mere invention wrought by man.
That denial suits me fine.
Keep saying that there's no Satan.

Thank you. Too many don't believe in good or evil. Situational ethics seems to be the new thing. In what situation is murdering children OK I wonder.............stan

We will never learn, or do we just keep saying if we ignore it, it will go away.
My thoughts go out to those families that have lost children and parents alike in all of these places.
Even here where our gun laws are very severe these things happen, if there were no guns they would find another way of madness.
Stan are they Mad this is another excuse people try to hide behind.
This is probably a humon trait that is seen in many creatures, put rats in a building more than three stories high they will attack each other and many other tests carried out, about time we tested humon responses for reactions, and took more care.
I give up...We rip into each other just writing poetry so where do we draw the line to use an old cliché.
Yours as always, Ian.T

When one looks into the cold blank eyes of these frormer humans how can one help but accept that evil exists?...............stan

Not satans, but man's inhumanity to man, or in this case children. We must stop blaming everything or everyone else, man is a killer with or without the religious stuff. We must make it harder for man to kill so many when he decides to murder. Thought provoking poem even though i believe it misguided. Regards Roscoe..

In my opinion Satan need not be a devil with horns and a tail but could be better defined as the pure evil which is displayed by the "people" who do such deeds...............stan

I was shocked to watch the news you have penned it well, such a tragedy another name onto the roll of freaks and monsters

regards JC x

It seems these monsters always choose to attack places where they can be sure there will be nobody with the means to stop their actions. Schools, universities, public buildings........sigh. Thanks for the visit.............stan

Sure you are going to say i misunderstood it.
But comparing Columbine,
movie theatre shooters,
Son of Sam,
and Obama is pure insanity.

I prefer your pastoral stuff, at least then you are not a nutter.

The problem with gun control is the assumption that it could begin with a zero base. If such was the case it would be easy enough to not issue permission to carry a gun to anybody who is mentally unstable. But the reality of the situation is that there are so many guns and so many ways to obtain them (the current idiot stole the ones he used I believe) that only the law abiding peole would be controlled and the insane and criminals would get theirs by whatever means they choose.
I don't think this current monster would have waited for a background check. Hence to pass laws keeping guns out of the hands of moral and sane people is counter productive . If my memory serves, in my part of the state there have been about 6 "home invasions" in the last couple of years. The home where the owners were armed resulted in death........of the criminals. The unarmed homes resulted in death or injury......to the victims.
BTW your Freudian slip is showing lol. I wrote Osama not Obama. I might disagree with Barak's politics but I hardly throw him in the same company as these murderers.
Oh well, I doubt either of us will change the other's mind about gun control but I Do think we can both agree there is good and evil in the world and to put a name to either is pretty harmless............stan

Damn good poem Stan !!! People love to blame the
devil, do you remember Flip Wilson?

I think this is a little soon, I mean those people haven't
even had time to bury their children yet but a damn good
poem just the same.

I'm not a believer but has it ever crossed your mind that
your God created evil.

I'm just a godless human but my heart goes out to those
families, my youngest is in the 5th grade and we like to feel
our children are safe at school.

S

I see you also caught Jess's slip. Wonder what that says about his Real view of emperor Obama lol.
As to being too soon........I sincerely hope that I have not offended anybody with this. Thought it better to Immediately state that this monster's actions were the result of the evil in his heart not some "personality disorder" which too many will blame.
Judging by recent history the schools and colleges are purposely targeted as being defenseless by the men who, if mad ,still are sane enough to not target a NRA convention or gun show. My hopes for All children's safety goes out to yours as well as others.................and my prayer I hope will do as much good for non believers as believers....................stan

It is religion which usually teaches us to Not listen to those voices in our heads which want mayhem. As to guns being available, I think he could probably killed about as many with a sword or knife as most schools forbid Any weapon on school grounds. I don't know any answers, I merely grieve for the victims.............stan

but I think the Rolling Stones also did a good job of it with one of the top songs of the century "sympathy for devil"

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer

Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste...

Yes surely murder, cruelty, slavery, barbarism, genocide and all the rest is part of the human condition and all history. Was there ever really a time or place without it? Most scientists agree we spouted from the chimpanzee, that happy little ape that makes wars on neighboring tribes and actually tears out the beating hearts of the captured and eats it. (Saw it on Planet Earth series)

I can't seriously believe there is a satin that exists outside the imagination, but there is clearly part us that is also bonobo and has a developed "sense of decency" and consciousness of good and evil. In a sense, how could we know the good if there was no evil? And we sure don't need to look too far to find evil all around us.
I don't see anything in your poem about gun laws...
The humanity seems to be very slowly moving forward to coping with it's evil side...things are a little better today than in Roman times, or viking times; at least there's some agreement on what the "good" is. Slavery is outlawed (most places), there are many charity groups which do so from the good within them, not to serve some jealous god they invent. If people want to believe Rosemary's Baby is based on fact...well if the fear of eternal damnation gets you to acknowledge the "good", and keeps you from murdering your neighbor, that's fine with me too.

of the best poetry of the last 50 years has been in the form of song and sympathy for the devil is one such. As to whether Satan is an actual entity or not....does it really matter? even if it's only the evil within us as long as it's recognized to exist and fought against the result is the same......stan
