Oh I heard the cuckoo,
did you hear the cuckoo,
just now,
listen,
the silence stuns
and then far out
in the long low valley
again and
again...
cuckoo, cuckoo,
how we love that sound,
and yet she is searching
for some poor little reed warbler,
to lay her eggs beside hers,
even then,
there,
did you hear it again...
cuckoo, cuckoo
magical
as the wind stretches
and compacts the sound
seived through the spring trees
with their rustling leaves
while the sky looks on
so innocently blue.

Yes, as I stood in N. Norway
Yes, as I stood in N. Norway near Hamsun's house,
the valley was long, into the distance,
and from way out there came the undulating strengths of the cuckoo's song,
one doesn't forget some of those moments
and when the bird is mentioned,
one is back there listening for the next cadenza!
Thank you Mark.

A lovely memory so beautifully put to let us see the sound as it reaches out for a new year, Yours Ian.T
Thank you Ian
Its a little early for the actual bird isn't it, do you hear them in Leicestershire? I used to when I lived there but not in in Holmfield Road, too much in the town.
Yours Ann.

The Cuckoo comes in April
sings its song in May
Changes its tune in the middle of June
and then it flies away.
This is as you will probably remember the old Nursery Rhyme to let us know what is going on.
We are out in a village so we hear them each year .
We have the dawn chorus each day, from Feb to June and that is just before the dawn.
You keep well out there and know we think of you often, Yours Ian.T
Oh the dawn chorus
How I miss that as well as the old squabble of the rooks at twilight,
but we have many woodpeckers here, more modern with their drums,
some on the tip of telegraph posts, metal, making a racket;
today the chaffinch sang as we sat beside the lake Maridal
on a tiny sandy beach beside the still frozen white water,
melted to show the Hansel and Gretal coloured stones at the edge.
Its been the hottest March ever.
The cuckoo I heard was in N. Norway in June.
My species crocus used to come out in late February
in Devon, the thrush singing loudly, big sigh.
Thank you Ann.
