A dragon's tale...

A dragons tale…

Fun you said as you soared fast and free,
carrying our hopes and me over troubled times
No longer were you willing to be,
a horrid monster of legend and nursery rhymes.

I’ll fly children on my back make new friends,
having all the pleasures of being loved and wanted.
Giving back in return a warmth that never ends,
real friendship that was once only ever flaunted.

I have exhaled my last angry firecracker you did shout,
no more terrorising or burning buildings on my part.
From now on this is a friendly old snout,
this I say sincerely from the bottom my heart.

Caitlin jump aboard, unless your afraid to try,
you were the one who taught me about friendship
And you should be first on my back to fly,
being careful of my larger scales not to trip.

To the air now my dear where would you like to go,
perhaps across the channel to your lovely France.
A dream of yours, ah’ you thought I didn’t know,
that this is where you’d love to carry on your dance.

That I was flying on a Dragons back, and it spoke.
never fazed me at all, I’d dreamt of this a thousand ways
Across the channel we headed, below little boats little folk,
was I about to begin a new life with happier days ?

Our friendship was not always there at the fore
in fact the beginning was one of fear and mistrust
Like all creatures who’s feelings people chose to ignore
he just needed love to break through his thick crust

So now a dear friend and no longer the feared beast,
I will just have to convince my parents he’s not wild.
And if we could only build him a shelter at least,
then I’m sure you’d agree my dream was domiciled.

The reading of this piece was a special treat! Even more so as my name is "Caitlin"! I love the content and pretext of this poem! My only suggestion is to add quotation marks where the dragon is speaking. Lovely work!

always, Cat
