Spent

Spent……….

We are but a jester’s jest
from our floppy
hat smile to our unsavoury
string vest. Given all we’ve
discovered, invented, created, why
don’t the animals used to test
our drugs or make up feel elated.
Stunted misshapen unhealthy mutes
given a home, kennel ? food to beaut’s

You have no god,
don’t you know he is simply for man he
was last seen in Nice topping up on his tan
Sometimes he goes skiing my goodness
he’s good and of course so is his son
well that’s understood.
Well enough about you now you
know your place, just apply this acidic
cream to your face we’ll come back
in an hour or two with a brace to
remove two of your teeth for the
sake of my race.

I’m off for a rest as it’s very hard work
with all of my tasks I’ll be down in the
bar if anyone asks I’ll be helping the barman
get rid of his casks, now where were we
In this wonderful story of life ?
Ah yes getting
back to why man can’t ever be content
with his life, and why he must own the world, well
would anybody rent this
unsavoury place that we did invent and by twenty
twenty it will be bloody well spent.

Ah see now you will start to listen as the
prospect of death on the horizon for
you does glisten

Thank you Ian, the word mute is reference to the fact they can't tell us how they feel. And thank you for correcting my typo. Regards Roscoe..

I sometimes feel i dwell to long on bad news, or maybe writing about it helps get it in perspective if that's possible. Don't know, i just feel we don't do enough. Thank you for commenting. Love Roscoe...

Strange for some reason I felt the craving to listen to "What A Wonderful World" performed by Shane MacGowan and Nick Cave befpre coming across this poem. I strange fortuity as some of the words collide, well maybe not. A fine poem I think in response to thoughts of cosmetics being tested on animals. And just as you put it. Good for you and thanx for sharing.
