Epilogue on Life

Each dawn brings a distantiation –
a photograph
viewed through old Lucite

Dance of evanescence
in the skies fiery meadows
Pleochroic displays
On the eastern horizon

The night sings
canticles to the dead
while the living
are trapped in partial death

My mind –
a melange of melancholic molecules –
a shiver of constant vibration

I am caught up – trapped
in a plexus of emotion
and expectation

I live apologetically –
ill at ease
on the razor edge of time

A brief subtle snap -
abrupt capitulation into
the unknown
Cataclysmic? No!!!
At least – I don’t think so

Seamless?
Sometimes it appears so
but can ever know for sure
Has anybody ever returned
to tell the truth?

When the moon is at its zenith
I meet my doppelganger
I look him in the eye
I need answers -
there are no answers -
only questions
Theories galore:
karmic laws;
natural laws;
indestructibility of energy;
heaven, hell; purgatory;
metempsychosis; last judgment
who knows?

We theorize, hypothesize
fantasize
we rave, we rant,
we lie, we kill
we commit heinous crime
because we believe
that our belief
is the ultimate truth -
it is as far as we can go
we can go no further

Our biggest
and most grievous sin
is to live apologetically;
to emasculate our souls;
to accept and encourage
emptiness as a way of life

Collapsed wings
we sit circumscribed
in our material realm

Everything in life has its antithesis
everything about its
aftermath’
is vague – ambiguous
wrapped in skeins
mystery

Self appointed messiahs,
preachers, priests
clairvoyants, soothsayers
and half clad hold men
heave their shoulders
against an stone wall –
in vain
Humility, prayer, penance
denial on one hand
greed, deceit,
material mongering,
megalomania
on the other –
bundles of paradoxical
contradictions

In the end
who knows -
will there ever be a way
to crack this –
the biggest conundrum?

Yes, I do agree. It is rather heavy on the words.

I am equally happy to be in the company of my good old friend.

i hadnt read your work before on the old Neopoet and today i have been privileged to read two thought provoking writes which have been a pleasure read...you appear to be a serious minded person...it is nice to have the likes of you on Board at Neopoet which you must be experiencing is evolving nicely ..the latest being the idea of having a book to be published by Neopoet...please read Ian (Yenti's) and Stan (Scribbler's) blogs and join the venture...Ian is looking out for poets from Asia to be contributors...

Leonard
