I stand and watch as time goes by
and progress rolls like a juggernaut
it cares not what lives or dies
for all that's lost is soon forgot
As pastures, fields, and wood and glades
are turned to asphalt parking lots
the beauty of our youth's world fades
beneath the dozers' brute onslaughts
They come from places out of town
drawn by a slower pace of life
but, one here, they scowl and frown
if others come with child and wife
For everybody wants a place
of peace out in the dell
once they have theirs it's a disgrace
if their ex-neighbors come as well
But as our numbers swell and grow
we all must have a place to live
and hence the sprawl we all hate so
robs land of all it has to give
The land which teemed with life and game
never more will be the same
the hills and hollows, now ground flat
feel footsteps from just dog and rat
I stand and watch as time goes by
and rage against the change
while all I love seems doomed to die
I hope I pas 'fore all seems strange
ya'll probably tiring of old site stuff ; will post something new tomorrow

Hi Stan
Nature being pushed to one side to make way for houses and shops etc. To loose the land and nature is to loose part of who we are I liked this stanza
But as our numbers swell and grow
we all must have a place to live
and hence the sprawl we all hate so
robs land of all it has to give.
As always your poems are well thought out and flow with ease. I only had one stumbling point which is, I think a typo. Other than that I enjoyed the read and look forward to reading more of your poems soon.
For everybody wants a place
of peace out in the dell
once the have theirs it's a disgrace ( Was it ment to be "once they have theirs? ).

LOL You should know by now that stumbling over a typo is far from rare with me. Always nice to see you've come by.................stan
hi Shirl
In a short 40 years my county has gone from being listed as rural to suburban. Now to get to true deep woods requires a 45 min. drive instead of just walking about half a mile. Good of you to come by and read this oldie.............stan
