Mum kept ours in a brightly coloured tin

There weren’t very many photos back then.
Carefully stored and lovingly treasured,
Mum kept ours in a brightly coloured tin
safe on the bookshelf in our father’s den
bound with elastic to hold down the lid.
There weren’t very many photos back then.
All counted not more than fifty and ten
those black and white images remembered.
Mum kept ours in a brightly coloured tin,
hung over us like an old mother hen
when to see them we begged to be allowed.
There weren’t very many photos back then
and I often think of those times gone when
so precious and not easily replaced
Mum kept ours in a brightly coloured tin
all labelled on the back in bright blue pen
past friends and relations immortalised.
There weren’t very many photos back then.
Mum kept ours in a brightly coloured tin.

This is some special metre or form of poetry I think it is made to sing, as the repetitions otherwise seem excessive to me judyanne,

The sentiment and the content I have no trouble finding charming, yes don't all have that box, or whatever with old faded b&w photos in them, some even from the 1800 in ours and as far back as photography's beginnings, but who wants them now? Except the family.

Unless there is a story attached, and as one sees on the Antiques Show of the BBC there can be some that are most fascinating, belonging to the owner of an interesting object, and then they can even be valuable. Or love letters, or messages, even shopping lists that are so old they have become historic, on the back, or such.

I love the Penny Farthing cycle with someone standing dwarfed beside it in his smart plus fours and cap. Or the ale glass beside an uncle, Moses Harvey!!!! Gaiters and all.

annanya carrie away to the distant past!!!
With my love to you.

seems as though I've heard it before, in another famous work, but I can't place it. This took me back too. i've some photos that date from the late 1800's early 1900's and no one left in my family remembers who they are, but I keep them anyways. Not a brilliant poem, but one that touches the heart, and after all, isn't that what it is about?

It's so nice to be able to take out old photos - especially fascinating to children - and share old stories or memories. I hope you have still got that bright coloured tin and you still take time to look at them, it's a family connection to the past.

A lovely nostagic poem.

A different style for you Judy!!!
