I'd like to live down-under
In Aussieland by the sea
With wallabies and waves of thunder
And Eucalyptus trees
The Outback filled with the songs
Of Kookaburra birds
And frog-filled billabongs
Grasslands and kangaroo herds
I'd listen through the night
To Aboriginal didgeridoos
Watch the sun come up bright
Look for spiders in my shoes
Ahhhh, the call of the wild
The Outback calling me
Me, a nature-child
A regular Croc Dundee

I was wondering; would it be better if I said in the first stanza: Australia, instead of Aussieland? ~ Geez.

Australia
seems more formal than Aussieland. I like the friendly flair of Aussieland more. It's a fine poem with it's light-hearted appeal. Nicely done!
Thomas
Thank you Sir...
The informal light-hearted approach is definitely what I am going for. My Aussie friends are pleased with my work and say that I hit it right on! ~ Geez.

"Aussieland", every time,
"Aussieland", every time, and I would advocate more colloquiums,
more earthy, in your face Australian couldn't care less language.
this is really good, worth working on.
Obi.
Thanks man...
I kinda want to keep it like it is, to keep the "average reader", [not an Aussie] from tripping over themselves in trying to understand colloquiums. This is easy for the everyday reader to understand, with just basic knowledge of Australia. ~ Geez.

Aussieland
Give it more a state of mind feeling I think. BTW congrats on the win
Thanks...
Going to Australia is on my bucket-list. Unfortunately, I will probably 'kick' the bucket before that happens unless I win the lottery. LoL

I have never heard the term
I have never heard the term "Aussieland" in my many visits to Australia.
I think "Ozzieland", "the Land of Oz" or even just plain "Oz" would be better and more Australian They also like "Godzone country" !!!
PS: "Aussie" is always pronouncied "Ozzie"!
PPS These PC/woke days "aborigine" is regarded as patronising and even offensive to some ...the US equivalent might be "red indian"...
Ello Lamginton
Sorry to butt in here but Our Chant is Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi and Ozzie to me being an Australian is a character here. I use Oz as in my country but I am Aussie. I live in town with a massive Koori/Aboriginal population and I've never heard of people of Aboriginal origin being offended at being called that. My cousin is half Koori and my niece is also among a heap of other family. My next door neighbour is Koori as well. In my neighbourhood there are tons. Having a lot of friends who're Koori I was curious who told you this. It's a misconception. Maybe somewhere someone is offended by being called that but not in any of the communities I know of. Most of the Koori organisations have Aboriginal in their title. Hope you aren't offended by my addressing this. I do it with good intent.
Kindest regards Jayne.
I bow to your local knowledge.

that I got it right. If you have read the previous comments, you will see that I've never been to Australia, but it's on my bucket list. If I ever hit the lottery... I have read many things about Aussieland, and I followed the T.V. programs for many years, so I feel like I would love to make the trip. ~ Geezer.
