"The Wild Hunt"

prepare a bath of soft water
swirl in oil of rosewood
with petals of hyacinth and lavender
that I may ready myself
for my lover on Beltane...

under the pale orb in mid sky
the horns sound, questing and low
with his wolves tracking the scent
the Beltane beast will not get far
for they shall run it to ground.

a cup of spiced clover honey meade
to wet my lips and warm my blood
to make us both sing high notes.
somewhere in the night my lover
rides in quest of "the wild hunt"

waiting, my thoughts racing
not quite the cusp of midnight
after moonrise, he senses me...
drawing close to where I wait
in my garden of wild flowers.

what is this spell come over me
gliding step, I move as if in a dream
carried on a Beltane breeze, I float.
tinkling of wind chimes, tender songs
against the wolfen howls!

a swirling mist surrounds us as
pulling me close, curvy back to him;
hands caressing his hips
with painted long finger tips
my words, a shivering sigh:

"take this body of mortal flesh
give me your kiss of eternal death..."

bathe us both in hot blood while
making promises we cannot keep
but give us eyes to see anew
the vanishing sights of the wild hunt
in the dying of the pale moon's soft glow...

Watch this space! Our AI is thinking of a response. This typically takes up to 10 minutes.

Geezer

look at a place that only exists for one night. This is a great story that either starts or ends here. I read lots of Sci-fi and Fantasy, and this is as good as anything I've read ever. Nicely done. ~ Geez.

This is beautiful..fantasy mixed with facts! It is descriptive, sensual and magical all wrapped into one. Great job.

Candlewitch

of all the poets on Neo... yours and Gee's opinion and advice mean the most to me. two mighty fine poets and friends.

This is absolutely spectacular I agree with Gee. It's brilliant.

a swirling mist surrounds us as
pulling me close, curvy back to him;
hands caressing his hips
with painted long finger tips
my words, a shivering sigh:

"take this body of mortal flesh
give me your kiss of eternal death..."

bathe us both in hot blood while
making promises we cannot keep
but give us eyes to see anew
the vanishing sights of the wild hunt
in the dying of the pale moon's soft glow...

Those last few stanzas are some of the best I've read in a while.

Much love always Lilbit xxx

I love the words you used, ethereal, evocotive and emotional, so atmospheric:

"take this body of mortal flesh
give me your kiss of eternal death..."

"May the blessings of Beltane be with you throughout the year, and may you always be guided by the wisdom and love of the ancient ones who came before us. May the fires of Beltane light your path and warm your heart, as you welcome the bright and beautiful season of summer."

So apt for the changing of the seasons. Ruby :)

Candlewitch

thank you for your kind and welcome wishes! I remember the fires of Beltane, and the spirit of the night... I don't get out much anymore, but celebrate in my heart and my thoughts are primitively joyful as I sip from a wine glass. it is nice to read a response from someone who understands the basis of my poem. I wish the same good things for you!

*love, hugs and Brightest of Blessings, Cat

You're welcome and your poem is beautifully penned. As I've said elsewhere, it is a joy to be here, learning and growing. May the blessings of Beltane be upon each and every one of us xxx Ruby :)

Rosewood Apothecary

I’ve had a rough and busy month and I’m sorry I’ve been missing all my friends.

I’m in love with every word of this. Of course we stole it and called it “May Day”. Total rubbish. This modern world knows nothing but deicide by assimilation of old ideas. It’s no mistake we found each other bound to earth and tethered to the old.

I wrote a poem for you awhile back entitled “Hitchhiking in the Dark”

https://www.neopoet.com/workshop/poems/hitchhiking-dark-candlewitch

I am pleased to tell you it is going to be published by Local Gems Press ‘Rhode Island Bards 2023 Anthology”. I’d like to send you a copy of the book when it is pressed in July. I’ll be doing a live reading of the poem as well at their event.

I hope you and Steven are doing well. Also, I never did mail the painting of your GTO. I’ll get on that for you. I’ve been seeking better employment and I had my choice of four jobs. I start my new position next Monday so I’m both nervous and excited.

Shoot me a message if you get a chance
Tim
