Poetry is Alive

I always felt as if my poetry wasn’t real poetry.
That my writing could never be as good as Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, or Lord Alfred Tennyson.
They were masters of their art.
But then I read a book that explained the breaks, rhythm, and melody of poetry.

How for one to be a poet,
One must write from the heart
And let words flow from the soul.

How poetry isn’t defined by rhyme,
But how the feelings of the poet are conveyed.

Poetry is an art form and should be seen as such.
Read aloud,
Attention set on the breaks, an inhale.
The separation of stanzas, a brush stroke on a painting.

For me, poetry is alive.
Flowing through my veins,
Crawling under my skin,
Dancing off my fingers onto paper.

And although my writing is…
Unconventional.
It is poetry nevertheless.

The below is a computer generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

The poem "Poetry is Alive" is a heartfelt reflection on the nature of poetry and the role of the poet. The speaker begins by expressing their doubts about the validity of their own poetry, comparing themselves unfavorably to great poets of the past. However, they are able to find inspiration in a book that teaches them about the technical aspects of poetry, as well as the importance of writing from the heart.

The poem's message is clear and relatable, as many aspiring poets struggle with feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. The imagery of poetry flowing through the speaker's veins and dancing off their fingers onto paper is particularly effective in conveying the passion and vitality of the art form.

One area where the poem could be improved is in its use of cliches. Phrases like "flowing through my veins" and "dancing off my fingers" are somewhat overused and may detract from the poem's originality. A possible line edit to address this issue might be to replace "Dancing off my fingers onto paper" with "Taking flight on my fingertips, onto the page."

Overall, "Poetry is Alive" is a well-crafted poem that offers a thoughtful exploration of what makes poetry meaningful and how it can impact the poet's life. With a few minor revisions, it could become even stronger.
