SILENT VOICE IN THE LAND OF CHAOS

In dark of night I sit alone
upon a rolling river's bank
beyond the reach of any phone
upon a near flat granite stone.

My thoughts flow free in this late hour
forming words I'd like to share
as closely as is in my power
yet lack of skill near makes me cower.

I look across the wide slow river
and see the lights where people gather
while silent rain drops make me shiver
and the cat tail's dry stalks quiver

And the ink flows steadily
landing on this silent page
which captures each drop greedily
each one a tiny part of me.

The words all become paper bound
trapped for ever in between the lines
they sit and scream without a sound
muted since no one's around.

Would that I could send them to that other side
to those awaiting.....anything
Maybe then they could abide
with the peace which they might bring.

I'm no prophet, priest of anything
but I can see the coming strife
and violence which it might bring.
Yet there is naught but silence's ring...

Geezer

must have the name of the challenge incorporated in them. So, anything that says: In the Land of Chaos, is good. How about
"A Voice in the Land of Chaos"? I hear you brother; the sound of silence wasn't the only thing Simon and Garfunkel heard.

This is so beautiful and peaceful like the calm before the storm. I think it's absolutely magic. I was there on the riverbank glimpsing over your shoulder watching the paper absorb the ink. As I read it I had orchestral music playing in my earbuds and it was like the words paced along with the music.

This is so well done!

Good luck in the competition!

I am please the calm before the storm message got through. I was listening to Disturbed,s version go the Sound of Silence when the muse struck . If you have not watched that video I'd highly recommend it. Always nice to have you drop by

your poem is stunning! as great a piece of work as all of your work. up to your fine standards. I can find no fault. you also took me on a musical odyssey, once I got started I could not stop. I went from song to song and artist to artist. two and a half hours later, I am back here at your poem! my favorite lines are:

I'm no prophet, priest of anything
but I can see the coming strife
and violence which it might bring.
Yet there is naught but silence's ring...
