Looking back allows me
To listen more closely
And appreciate more fully
I find that old memories
Show me a different set of parents
than I knew
I clearly see now
My siblings in a new light
Different from the past
I realize
A lot of love and caring
That I missed
Looking back allows me
To listen more closely
And appreciate more fully

I had to re-read...
this a couple of times, before I understood the third stanza. I'm not sure of how you might make it clearer, or even if you should try. I'm of a mind that it helps to go back and read it again, anyway. I have many memories of the days of my childhood and find that the older I get, the more I realize, that beyond the simple memory, are nuances that you see only after you are grown and have children of your own. Well done, ~ Geezer.

Thank you. I also was trying to review the third stanza, i will take another look.

Defintely yes...
A very true piece of work. As we get older, and develop more grown-up attitudes, we begin to understand that our parents were looking out for us, and weren't just being mean, and our siblings were having their own changes. Nice work and I think
that the changes that you made definitely make it clearer. ~ Geezer.

How about...
Exceeds those memories?

Hello, Clentin,
Perfect title for this poem - makes me reflect on my past, too, with a deeper sense of appreciation.
Thank you!

Is this a certain poetry form where the first and last stanzas are the same?

Certainly does make us see things differently as we age and experience the ups and downs of life. Well done!
