Wattle scented nights

I sit here, in solitude
the wattle once more, wafts
coiling into the valley,
I think of him, aye,

once, whiskers
rubbed my face,
rugged hands
traced with ink
stroked my vellus,
tattooing his face
into time and space
is the ache in my spine,
stars once danced
creating galaxies
in my reflection,
my blood flamed
with the Aurora
of his presence,
but shadows run into
the line of my face,
hunger for his scent
burned holes
in my soul

and now,
stilled in suffering
I no longer want,
the stars are veiled
and the aroma of wattle
spirals out of the valley,
until we meet again

The golden wattle is the emblem of Australia. And of I think it's about 12 or 13 hundred strains of Wattle a 1000 of them come from here. So yeah it will always be wattle to me. Waratah is our state emblem if you want to see a really beautiful flowering shrub look them up they absolutely stunning. The have a thing called inflorescence which makes them extra brightly coloured. I'll send you one. The flower can be up to 15cm in diameter.

Love you always Lilbit xox

My love of the universe is not a well kept secret lol but yeah the stars in the sky hold a special place in this Australis heart. It's the southern pointers that are mapped in my heart and once you find them they're easily recognised.

I'm really glad you liked this one.

have to purchase some wattle seeds to plant at my sister's place. I am sure that she would appreciate them. A lasting gift for her and her husband; for all the family to enjoy after I have gone. I usually "plant" things in my sister's gardens. At the last house her and her first husband owned, I planted a couple of plastic/rubber frogs and a snake. I never tell her about them. It is great fun to see how long it takes for her to discover them. I would tell her about the wattle though, so that they are not accidently removed as a weed or obnoxious plant. I love the idea of a sweet-smelling flowering plant that can be enjoyed by her and her husband, much as they enjoy the lilac bushes that already grow there. Thank you for the wonderful poem that gave me the idea. This piece reflects the calm, peaceful nights that she describes and treasures; just as she loves the poems from Neo. and my Aussie Sis. Well done, Sis, well done. Love and higgest bugs, ~ Geez.

I will see if I can send some from here!! I'll check they'll pass customs in the States and the best way to send. I would like to think you can visit a part of my world.. I'll also send some Waratah. That's my states flower they're absolutely stunning. The flowers can be as big as 15cms round but I've seen bigger than that. They're something else. I have bottle in my garden. Reminders of another life I guess you could say.

I had to giggle at the Snake and frogs planted in the garden she'd have wondered wtf LOL!! You're a trickster hahaha.

was the first, and she didn't find it until weeks after I had been to visit, so she didn't connect it to me until she was telling me about her find, and I couldn't keep from smiling. Suddenly, she said; "It was you! " We had a good laugh and thereafter, I have planted frogs and another smaller snake each year. I haven't brought one to her new place yet, and I'll bet that she has forgotten all about it. [The snakes and frogs have been in storage for a couple of years], so it will be interesting to see how long it takes this time. I also painted a couple of stars on her kitchen wall with glow in the dark paint, when I was there alone one day. The paint is a very light greenish paint that is indistinguishable from a distance, and I put it above eye-level. She said that one evening as she turned out the kitchen light, she thought she saw a lightning bug on the wall, and she turned the light back on; making it disappear. Light off, back! Light on, gone! Curious, she got close and said she knew right away, who the trickster was! LoL Love and higgest bugs, ~ Geez.

You know it's funny but also incredibly sweet that you have this relationship with your sister. The stars on the wall are just a beautiful thing to do. Id be absolutely chuffed lol but you know why, I can see her turning the light on and off wondering what the hell is going on, are lightning bugs like fireflies? I'm curious. I don't think I've ever heard of them before.

Sisters and yeah, I have that special connection with them. Uhhuh, lightning bugs are the same as fireflies. I guess that the flashes look very like far-off lightning, ya know, before the storm gets within sound distance. My mother was a prankster first degree and we all inherited it from her, even our brother! [Some of us are a bit worse than others] Love and higgest bugs. ~ Geez.

Hi, J,
I've read that sense of smell has the strongest ability to stir our memories and emotions. I have no idea what the wattle plant smells like, but it must be gentle and sweet. This speaks of such affection and sadness. I love the idea of associating natural elements - stars, plants, space and time - with our personal relationships. The connection is so powerful and complete.
Tender poetry reflecting on someone very special.
Much love,
L

I have an incredible sense of smell, one day many years ago I kept telling my family I could smell something burning, this went on for hours until I localised the area it was coming from. There was some faulty wiring in the wall and it would have burnt the house down if we hadn't have found it, as it was it had just started burning the strut and was moving upwards. Thank God I persisted and like a sniffer dog kept walking round the house until I found it. Everyone kept telling me I was losing my mind, I was the only one that could smell it. My memory is always nudged by smell. One example is toast, whenever I smell it I think of my mother. Thanks for your read. There was a time he was my whole world.

Love J xx

See and smell the wattle as the memories of your loved one circle the air along with it. Love the imagery, language and how you connect your emotions and memories to nature. Beautifully done!

Seren

Thanks I'm really glad you liked this one. I do connect to nature and it's flora an fauna. I do stargaze but the beauty around me is not lost to me.
