Wreckage of the Poet...

The poet waited for his praise
with long minutes ticking by
Thoughts of accolades and gold
teardrops in their eyes

There was only criticism
No rich and hearty praises
No one said that's great!
There's no back at you, or cute phrases

Saddened by the response
He was a such a wreck
He was totally disheartened
Put a rope around his neck

He jumped off from the ladder
hands behind his back
There were cheers from in the gallery
"He was just a hack!"

Somewhere in the future
about in twenty years
He was "discovered" once again
This time it was to cheers!

He was a genius, way ahead of time
it is amazing, yes, it's true
He was the toast of all the poets
How do you know, this could be you!

I really like this I think it's fear of failure that grips us in many areas of our lives. As poets we want our words (to use a friends expression) to chime something in the reader. History is littered with poets discovered later in life and a lot of times after they've passed.

Thought provoking poetry indeed.

I love it I can't see anything that needs tweaking I've read it a few times the flow and cadence is good.

I do have a challenge for you big brother I would love to see you be more adventurous in your word choices. Big smiles we are here to gently push each other to be better and I am even pushing myself in new ways

It’s never going to happen. Maybe one day when I’m gone it’ll catch on. Of course I like the validation from external sources. I like it quite a bit. But ultimately these poems are written with a different intention and they’re going to exist whether nobody reads them or a million people read them.

I’ve seen a handful of poets drop their stuff here and then kinda disappear. Some of them I’d have liked to stick around because they’re talented. What can ya do?

we can do, is to encourage them. That is one of the reasons that we are so big in trying to make sure that everyone gets at least a "Hello, I see you, and I like what I see." For all of those out there, that are struggling; don't be discouraged when you get a few critics telling you that you need to change this or that. Look at the criticisms as though they were lessons in school.
I don't believe that any of us who are supposed to be "good" poets, got that way, just by writing a few poems. There are many of us who have struggled and changed the way we write. I look at some of the things that I've written in the last fifteen years, and say, "I could do better." Mostly, we need to understand, that the world of poetry is fluid, and will continue to change.
For all of you that have, and continue to give critique and comments, thank you. May the feeling of family be with you. ~ Geezer.

in my book, you are one of the greats. you are most assuredly one(three) of my favorite poets. you are much loved here. I hope you are trying to be published in magazines, so others can discover you.

I love that I have such strong fans here! [Here's where I give the aww shucks, quote.] "I am just a poor poet trying to communicate with others." Of course, I love it! I am happy to have reached people with my work. [Although, to me it's never been work.] I enjoy storytelling; and that is what we do! We tell the stories of our lives, and what we see around us. Some of us are funny, some sad, and we run the gamut of emotions. Keep creating, keep encouraging and someday, you can say,
"I gave that poet some comments and critique, when they were just beginning." Thank you for your always helpful comments and critique my friend. You're one of the best! ~ Big hugs, for Cat [and eddy gets a handshake.] ~ Geez.

I'm glad that I have given you some enjoyment. I try hard to measure up to the accolades I am given here. I'm not always sure what will resonate with the reader. Sometimes, a thing that I've written will not cause so much as a ripple in our little pond; while I've thought that it would be a big hit! One never knows what mood the story will invoke. That is a part of being a poet/writer. I guess not even the great Geezer, can always be on top of things. I appreciate each and every piece of critique and every comment that I receive. I may not always agree with it, but I like that someone feels strongly enough about it, to tell me. Thank you, ~ Geezer.

Such a sad tale but true for so many artists. You will always be appreciated and recognized here. I have learned so much from you over the years not just in writing. Your influence over the other poets here shows as we look to you for guidance. This is a great write.

Geezer

the impetus for this write! I was reading some of Esker's old stuff, and amazed at the times when there was not even one comment. There are stories he told, that were simply amazing, and yet... I foresee, the day when he is lauded as one of the
poets of our day, and we here at Neo. will be hailed as his birthplace, the beginning of "Esker". There are others here that have come and gone, those that were taken from us before the world has discovered them, and those that will be praised as
"Great" somewhere down the line. Thank you for your great critique and comments, you have never failed to amaze me with your own work. ~ Geez.

Hi, Geezer,
A familiar tale regarding poets, and people of creativity in general. So many die too young, and many by their own hands. You've hit the very core so well. I join with others thanking you for all you do to let us get wanted / needed support here.
