Hello, Clentin,
What a beautiful message! The definition of unconditional love. I've been trying to explore the haiku realm, too, and it is more challenging than it looks! I believe this would actually be considered a senryu, which is a bit different than haiku in that it deals with human elements and emotions, whereas haiku's subject is about nature - seasons, earthly elements. You have written an inspiring piece - much to love in a brief form.

Thank you. I am trying to explore the different types of poems.
I am not familiar with sendup?

I thought a haiku was any topic that used the 5,7,5 syllable

There are so many wonderful, challenging, and fun poetry forms out there! You may want to look up the differences between haiku, senryu, and another called tanka - all Japanese poetry forms. I normally write free verse, so when I try a structured form, I try very hard to follow guidelines and rules to meet the challenge. There is history and culture in most forms that give us insight into the minds of poets. I could study it all day...
Again, your poem is wonderful in structure, feeling, and message! A gift to read!

Thank you for explaining the difference in the types of Japanese poetry. I never realized that haiku focused on nature and senryu was for human emotions. More reasons I love this site! We learn from each other.

I can relay only what I've learned so far, which is just a drop in the sea of poetry. There are layers after layers to haiku / senryu. Clentin's poem is intriguing and very thought provoking not only in its strong message, but haiku / senryu form!

I did look up the two forms you mentioned. I will explore further.I want to try different forms even though I prefer free verse
