Canine Frequencies

We suddenly notice our dog, Tuffy,
missing from his favorite spot on the sofa
as we get up to investigate

There he sits, silently and patiently,
by our back door, expectantly
waiting for us to finally notice
he needs to go out

Perhaps he wonders why
it’s taken us so long
to receive his urgent thoughts
beamed to us from canine frequencies

Our other dog, Dante,
always scratches and makes a racket
at the door for some relief
to go out and about his business

He has known for some time
that we are idiots in need
of a more reliable connection

Hi, Michael,
Very clever title. It's fascinating when we realize that we are so tenderly connected with our furry friends. I'm so sorry about Dante. It sounds like he was very special.

Geezer

has ever had a dog for any length of time, they realize that they are very special animals. I'm sure there are many stories you could tell about Dante, that would be familiar to other dog owners. That said, there are no other dogs as special as ours, on this earth. Sorry about Dante. I love the simplicity of the story, yet it has such poignancy. Great piece. ~ Geez.

For the loss of your pet I’m deeply sympathetic. They’re the best of us for sure and they are dearly missed.

I’ve often wondered about this. What is my dog thinking? What is my dogs opinion of me? Do they get annoyed or upset at me?

They’ve got some telepathic abilities for sure. Mine knows when my wife is about a half mile from home. She starts pacing from the window to the door in anticipation. It’s very uncanny.
