Monster Under The Bed

Invisible by day
Though never far
You; naive and unsuspecting
Me; ever watching, ever plotting

I am....

The creaky floor beneath your feet
The foods that you just shouldn't eat
The regrets you can't shake
The monster under the bed that you make

Night time is play time
Shape shifting into your soul
Stealing your dreams
Releasing your own personal hell

I am...

The one Mama warned you about
The one you couldn't live without
But now I'm gone and you're still here
Living with your own worst fears

I had to look and see what was under my bed! Actually, I know only too well, that's what makes it scarier! Nice tight little poem for this scary holiday! ~ Geez.

I try not to look under my bed, it's a little frightening under there! Two days and counting until Halloween! I am sure Killer is ready!

Hi, Rose,
Yes, this is why I don't watch too many scary movies...they make their home under my bed.
Nice write!

It's funny how our minds torture us with the unknown when the known in life is more terrifying it's just we are numbed by the mounting death tolls. Savagery and monstrous acts we commit against each other. I wonder if we make up monsters scarier than life to make the real stuff more bearable.

Thought provoking poetry for me hits the spot perfectly. This did it with ease.

Kudos on a solid write.

I think the monsters under our bed are a lot of times in our head...they are our regrets...our worst fears...glad you enjoyed.

the whole poem is wonderful and I love your presentation/lay out! you write horror with the best of them!
this was hard to choose, but these are my favorite lines:

I am...

The one Mama warned you about
The one you couldn't live without
But now I'm gone and you're still here
Living with your own worst fears

it really resonates!

For such high praise. I enjoy writing poetry that leaves a chill..and of course the occasional bloody scene. The dark side speaks to me but I do try to dabble in other genres as well. So many wonderful poets on here that inspire me...you included!
