Tales Of Ancient Greece : One Shot

In the distance,
Under the blazing sun,
Tied to an ancient stone altar,
Was a terrified young woman,

Her cries for help echoed,
As a tall and burly man,
With a devilish smile on his face,
Held a sacrificial dagger over his head,
Ready to plunge it deep into the hapless woman's chest,

My heart leapt in my throat,
As I had to do something,
So I readied my bow,
And steadied my arrow,
Never had I hit a mark so far away,

But with time running out,
I had only one chance,
One shot,
So I pulled back and let go,
Watching the arrow sail to its fate,

The man's face turned shocked,
As he dropped the weapon,
And clutched the arrow,
Sticking out of his sternum,
Then fell dead on the ground,

I ran to the woman,
Who had now turned hysterical,
And was straining pitifully against the ropes that bound her,
As I quickly cut her free,
She suddenly jumped up,
And screamed wild eyed at me,
"You killed him! We were rehearsing a play! We're actors!"

I stared at her and calmly said,
"I know,
I'm his understudy,
It's going to be a true delight working with you",
I then gave a devilish grin.

What a great story! You totally shocked me. That must have been a killer part! Sorry I’m a dad and obligated to make awful puns.
