Highway 66

Where?
Down near Highway 50
I’m flying South,
My tires came off in the North.
And East is running,
And West was shot down.
I forgot I was here,
When was I ever,
On highway 60
With the bones of society,
With the pope's lips of piety
Stomping on highway 40
Where brown and white infants lay,
Where president’s tap, tap
On a child astray
Where?
Through to the West,
Not quite South,
Not quite East.
I’m on the road with the priest,
To pray for his sins
With black violins
And the devil rides shotgun,
And the devil rides everyone
Where?
Towards the silence,
that sleep’s like sorrow and
rings as warfare crawls in furrows-
Least I fall tomorrow
Down near Highway 66
Where I’m flying South,
And I’m seeing North.
And East is tired,
And West has leaked out,
And I’m so far out,
So very far.

Your language is fine, the rhythm and pace are good, and I'm not sure that the theme is how I perceive it. I see this as a rant against the Catholic church. Which certainly is fine with me! I love the ending; I see it as a way to explain how you feel about
writing this piece. It is a matter of feeling like you have to, while wishing that it isn't true. I could be wrong about the whole thing. ~ Geezer.

Not certain of your personal intent, but I know how this makes me feel. There was a time in my growth, spiritual, mental, emotional, personal, that I'd get in the car and just drive. (I drove out in the country.) Time with my thoughts, both good and not so good, sometimes with resolve.
Thank you,
L
