All of my life I have tried to fly
Soaring high in the great blue skies
Gliding on dreams that were not mine
A domestication of a young life
I lived in dreams innocent and happy
Never asking; “are these my dreams?”
Never wondering where the answers
Truly lie.
Seeing life only through their eyes
And they doing the best they could
To promote the dreams they saw for me
As I fought to become free.
Finally, freedom came to me
Breaking free of the mold that constrained
My brain to only see their dreams
I thought; “Now what?”
I saw that I could fly,
Without their strings attached to my wings
If I crashed and burned
It would be because of me, in spite of them
No dreams of grandeur came to my mind
I just loved the in and out of free thought
Which ran their course through my head
To do the things which only pleased me
I live inside my shell, happy I am to be just me
Having my own dreams to see them
Excel or derail not caring where I’ll be
Living life the way I wished it.
All I know, I will never ever live a life
For those, who think that they can promote
their dream onto me
You will never live vicariously through me

We all suffer our projections
We all suffer our projections Eddie. At least I do. But to flow in and out of the dream with wings? Ahhhh!

Dear Eddie,
My favorite lines:
No dreams of grandeur came to my mind
I just loved the in and out of free thought
Which ran their course through my head
To do the things which only pleased me
I live inside my shell, happy I am to be just me
Having my own dreams to see them
Excel or derail not caring where I’ll be
Living life the way I wished it.
Beautifully stated! The ending lines are very strong indeed. Nice finish.
In this line:
Finally, freedom came to me
Breaking free of the mold that constraint
My brain to only see their dreams
I thought; “Now what?”
I think constraint should be constrained or constrains.
Altogether a great read.
always, Cat

thanks old friend, I made the correction.

It is good
to see the contentment and centeredness in a person in this fast paced and often tumultuous world. To be oneself and to be at peace in oneself is something that is no longer espoused by the mass of humanity. Who is it that drives as, an external locus of identity, perhaps? TFS, Eddie... much to ponder on after reading your poem.

hello
I guess a good definition for maturity is being able to consider others' ideas for your life but also able to discard those you don't agree with. I have 3 ideas you might consider :
L-3 maybe...Lifted by dreams ...........
L-15 change brain to mind
L-23 change their to its or thought to thoughts in L-22...............scribbler
