When I was young
I was encouraged to have a bet
Go on, pick one out
Mum and Dad would say
It was just something
Parents did back in the day.
Gambling was accepted
Something Australians did
Today the Cup is on
It's part of our culture, kids
Part of being, Australian
So our teacher said.
Things were going great
A girlfriend
Started my first job
Even bought a car
Dinner every weekend
With the mum and dad.
The rollercoaster begins
Life's ups and downs
The more you do it
The deeper you get in
Until there's nothing left
Just numbness within.
Soon your friends are gone
House belong to someone else
So too the wife and kids
You'll never win them back
Now you're even gambling
More than you ever did.
Gambling's like a movie
Lights, camera, begin
Manipulate, steal and lie
Like winning an award
Don't believe in tomorrow
Tomorrows just for why.
Sometimes I think all
All the things, I've lost
Families very important
But not, important enough
Time is what it costs
Time you can't win back.
Gambling's an Addiction
The only way you'll win
Just walk out that door
At least with drugs and alcohol
You get something
Sometimes I wish I did.

Hey Chris...
you have a typo in the first line of the 5th stanza.
[you're] friends...
Good work and the progression of the disease, is real. ~ Geez.
.
THANKS.
Thanks Gezzer, i wish I paid more attention at school. Never really liked it. Wish I could go back. I have only ever read two books in my life.
hello Chris
in this line: Like winning a award. I believe it should be: (Like winning (an) award.) I couldn't help notice the terrible despair in your poem. even when you win you loose. even a heroin addiction isn't as bad as a gambling addiction. there is a 12 step program that can help. you would be accepted there. it is sad, because only another gambler would really know what your going through. but at least they would have an inkling. Good luck to you.

p.s.
I really liked these lines:
Sometimes I think all
All the things, I've lost
Families very important
But not, important enough
Time is what it costs
Time you can't win back.
Addiction.
Thank for your help Cat.
