As the world looks on through horrified, tear-filled eyes
the stench of inhumanity and the reality
of death and destruction, fills our T.V. screens
Lies of hearts and goals of monsters take precedence
My ears stuffed full of indignation at humanity's deafness
I am threatened with overwhelming sadness at the callousness
and the distance from happiness and democracy here in my life
Does anyone smell the stench of decay, the odor of horror
and bodies lying in the streets?
Indifference cannot be accounted for by the distance from the crime
Who can look upon this tragedy and close their hearts?
Does comfort and stability ease the pangs of truth sitting uneasy
in our lap and salving our conscience; that we are innocent of evil?
Remember, that all evil needs to flourish, is for good men
to do nothing and avert their gaze, so that its' stink does not cling to us
Lives given in the name of freedom, and innocence slaughtered in the street
Brave hearts praying that the world does not dismiss the cries for salvation
Take heed, stand up for the freedoms that are everyone's by right
Honor the basic tenets that "All men are created equal", deserving of life
and that the rest of us are not privilaged beings, but brothers and sisters
Deny the evilness that resides in the souls of monsters, slayers of truth
Bombs and bullets can destroy buildings, but places of worship and honor
should be in our hearts and able to withstand the destruction of any weapon
The flickering images and voices from half-way around the world fill my mind
and though not one to pray to God; I wonder if that is the problem?

dear Geezer,
in reading your poem i have discovered that I feel your outrage and pain the same as you. I ask, "won't someone intervene and stop this insanity?" I know we have to be careful as not to start a nuclear war... but what will be done and by who? your poem shows your outrage and compassion and pure horror. I feel the same. do you know if there is somewhere I can donate to help?
*hugs, Cat
p.s.
it is a fine poem, which you put a lot of energy and effort into. I wish I could write as eloquently as you do.

Do all know you r so intelli -Gent
but just tell me
earlier ones
who caused disaster
were ...SANE...
Absolutely not!...
I would like to think, that maybe someday, the human race, will wake up to the fact that we are not going to fly off into the stars and populate the heavens, at least not any time soon. We should learn to live here with one and other, before we spread our
disease of hatred out into the rest of the galaxy. If there is a God, he/she has done a good job of isolating us from the rest of the universe.
As I have said before, if there are aliens out there, they are not about to contact that crazy bunch of neighbors, until they settle down. ~ Geez.

Just dropped in, read yours & must tell you that this is genius. I haven't time to critique as on the train & keep losing signal but know this could be the best of yours I've ever read (that's not the greatest compliment as I've read some awful ones of yours! LOL).
If there was poet of the month, I would proudly allow you to stand on the podium in second place next to me! LOL!
Seriously, wordplay & delivery spot on my friend.

Thank you Sir...
I do believe that this is one of the nicest compliments you have ever bestowed on this person! This poem was written after watching newscasts of the atrocities that Russian soldiers have visited upon the civilians of towns that they have occupied. As the Ukrainians have retaken these towns, they have discovered many bodies of these people with their hands ties behind their backs and shot execution-style. I looked upon the mass graves of civilians, the bullet ripped cars with bodies of people just left to rot and it made my stomach churn and the bile rise in my throat. I cannot comprehend how these people were a threat to Russian soldiers, armed with automatic weapons and ensconced in armored vehicles! How does a caged dog, constitute a threat to a Russian soldier? I do believe that " Killer" and Anubis should make a visit to a Russian occupied town!

Killer..
...do you mind if the Hooded Stranger tagged along?

If tagging along...
means a partnership; I'm afraid that means no. I have had a few disastrous pairings and am not ready for another, plus I have my back-up in Anubis, and he is not an amiable companion for most. However, if you decided to make the journey at the same time, I would have no argument with adding some more woe to the Russian's dilemma. Thank you for the offer, sincerely~ Killer.
No partnership?
Oh well, I’ll stick to going it alone. It’s all good.
