Leaving Ukraine

Killing time is here

They have come at last

At our back doorstep

The appearance of peace

Has long since past

Run out into the country

Run as far as your legs will last

Leave everything you love

Abandon the past

Leave your neighbor

And your best friend

Find a new place to begin

Your bridges all are burning

You’re homeless tonight

You’ve got to get to higher ground

The river is rising fast

Don’t give into hatred!

Although the guns of war sound

Lay hold upon your heart of hearts

A reckoning may still be found

In the Melee of contention

The truth it must resound

We all have been warned

But hope, it must ring out

Move quickly now

Make not a sound

Days of desolation

Have come fully unwound!

About This Poem

Last Few Words: Although time and space are subject to some semblance of permanence, reality on this plane of existence is never set in stone. Some of the sequencing of events may contain remarks that don't resemble their exact time or place in anyones reality. In any event poetry is more, for me an expression of emotion and not fact in and of itself.

I read your Bio. it is quite interesting! I have a few mental, emotional and physical conditions. I am OCD, have DID and maintain a marriage/relationship. I found your poem something I could identify with. in the past I have been on the run, where I could trust no one.
I especially identified with these lines:

find a new place to begin

Your bridges are all afire!

You’re homeless at last!

You’ve got to get to higher ground

The river is rising and rising fast

*hugs, Cat

p.s.
I love Jackson Browne!
I would love to read more of your poetry!

If we all thought about it, over 50% of the people we know and in the world are in some serious crisis. The personal language that use with one another is in my opinion the key to societal peace. Having said that we all must engender and adhere to the principle of empathy and the philosophy coined as "do no harm. Psychologist Carl Rogers said "we all need unconditional positive regard." I'm happy to hear that this evoked emotion. God bless you concerning you personal Life Struggle!
