IN MID-WINTER

Four straight days of cold hard rain
have set dead beech leaves to quiver.
Will we ever see the sun again?
Thoughts of a walk just makes me shiver
as I look out of the sliding door.

The squirrels, though, don't seem to mind
as they cavort on the century oak.
They go to ground hoping to find
an acorn while winter rains soak
their world from canopy to floor.

Yet here I sit inside and bored;
too much of rain , too much T.V.
Sunrises? Sunsets? all ignored
while I rub the scar on my old knee
dreaming of the times before.

A bit of snow would be nice now
but there's none in the forecast
so no need of a snow plow.
How long can this deluge last?
Rivers' banks can't take much more.

Winter is my favorite season
but this one of only mud and rain
seems to have gone far beyond reason
and yet the clouds still build and drain.
How much more can be in store?

So if the snows refuse to come
and gray wet days are all winter will bring....
I'm tired of this, I've become numb
And now await the days of spring
and the new life which it has in store.

Geezer

that you are partial to winter, because of the harsh, hot summers in your neck of the woods. I get that. Not my cuppa coffee!
I love the warm summer months and say that if it gets too hot, turn on the AC or go fishing and or swimming! I really like your cadence, the rhythm of this is very good! Actually the best I've seen of your writing lately. Nice job! ~ Gee.

It actually gets too hot to fish here lol. As to meter, I guess I stumble into getting one right once in a while. Thanks for the visit

have you given any thought to global warming? maybe this could be the reason you are only getting rain? I used to like the rain when I was a kid. now it just aggravates me in a painful way. on the other hand, I love to watch it snow outside my deck window. cozy in my easy chair, with a fire in the fireplace.
