JUST HANG AROUND.... (weather contest)

The last stars and setting moon
bath the frost with their cold light
while I squint out the bedroom window
and shivver upon waking up.

Later as I prune a tree
with the frost now turned to dew
a breeze stirs from the morning sun
and ushers in the day's leaf fall.

Pruning complete I shed my coat
for the sun has overcome the cold
drawing a bead of perspiration
from my bare scalp.

Next chore will be leaf littered yard
beginning to stir from stiffening breeze
beneath building clouds in azure sky

With a stretch of achy back
I check my watch
lunch time is near
So putting off procrastination i gather my tools
to put in the shed

Stomping my feet on the front porch
loosens duff from my boots
before going inside where love abides
who is just finishing lunch.
Her "tip" is a big hug.

Afterward we sit a while to let food settle.
Then with achy knees I rise,
open the door which lets leaves in
for the breeze has become a southing wind
bringing warm damp air along.

And lowering clouds, and splats of rain....
on this typical Carolina mid autumn day.
