I THOUGHT OF YOU

I thought of you when I put it into boiling water.

I thought of you.

Then when I boiled it to perfection I thought of you.

And then I cracked its head open with thoughts of you.

And when I stuck my soldier in I thought of you.

And then I scooped its creamy yolk with thoughts of you
and sucked its salty wet flesh through my teeth to thoughts of you……

…and then …

and then....

……and then I crushed it
like an eggshell………

………until I wasn't thinking of you anymore.

About This Poem

Last Few Words: The last line is a lyric from a Laurie Anderson song but I have forgotten which - sorry. A "soldier" in this context is made from a slice of buttered toast. The toast is cut up into thin slices narrow enough to fit into the gaping mouth of the soft boiled egg so you can get some yolk on it. It's delicious!
