Temperate forests sometimes do not breed temperate minds.
It's not easy being green with the incessant
pitter-patter, let's get at 'er that soaks the ground deep.
The land receives the great return;
drinks its fill and lets the rest spill where it will.
Gravity the guide for such things as
rivers become waves in the sea.
And amid dreams of bright blue summers
the grey wetness will cleanse or depress,
by choice or condition, no less.
A test of equanimity, of acceptance and serenity
The drizzle and torrent, sprinkle and storm;
blurred tail lights and the foot soaking puddle you try to avoid.
The gloom that lets dark thoughts enter the room.
Or the rhythmic sustain of a steady rain
that shepherds you again off to sleep
The moss laden forest where growth
is the main colour you see.
May the choice always be yours.

Thanks Mark :-) I was in a bit of a writing lull and being prompted by the contest helped get the muse back. British Columbia has had massive flooding with highways and bridges wiped out... Thankful I live on higher ground. Real extreme weather happening. At least the sun has come out the past two days...
Although this...
piece is moistly a reminder of the grey and dreary skies that must prevail over your piece of the country; I also see the blindingly beautiful blue sky and the yellow warmth of the sun. I think that it was the line: "And amid dreams of bright blue summers." Funny how one line can make a or break a poem for some. Good job! Good luck in the contest! ~ Geez.

Thank you Geez! The contest
Thank you Geez! The contest prompt helped get me writing after a bit of a lull. I appreciate as always your comments :-)
Storm of the Century
So in my part of the world, 4 inches of rain has fallen over a 48 hour period and it all goes downhill -- much of the low lying sections of Greater Vancouver (a river delta system) is under water. Landslides across the province have wiped out major highways. State of Emergency... all of that. I live in a higher section so I am fine, but local bridges are out. My company is not receiving needed supplies/shipments due to it all. It really was a storm of the century...
Maybe something...
to write about? I can think of lots that could be made from a theme like that.

Awoke Gods
Or did this poem somehow awaken the Rain God...
I may need to write another poem to appease...
Your post...
gave me an idea and I ran with it! ~ Geez.

Really liked your poem
I liked the way the poem moved between the description of the weather and its impact on nature in general while also including the thoughts of one who experiencing it all and how it can affect mood either positively or negativity depending on choice. About the only comment I'd make is the title isn't really reflected in the poem itself, I wouldn't know from reading it that the location is the coast I actually thought more of forests and open land, but that's just me.

Thank you...
