What an excellent idea, I sometimes have problems understanding poems. I think your suggestion is wonderful, often I would love to leave comments on poems I think are creative but I feel inadequately qualified and worry that I might offend/discourage the poet because I haven't got the meaning of it. Any help in this regard would be wonderful.

a wonderful idea, but there is the issue of posting copyrighted work and we don't want any legal issues.

If we can still do what you are suggesting without legal issues, then I am all for it.

Maybe we could contact a published poet and ask them to allow us to post their poem and ask them to analyse their own work for us?

I don't know if they have found anyone to take over the newsletter, but we need a kick ass newletter that everyone is aware of and wants to contribute to.

If I had my time again i would like to have the freedom to make it fresh and new, and make it visual ie. use images.

After a certain amount of time, if there is no-one collecting royalties, some poems enter "public domain". I'd be happy to do some research.

Also happy to contribute to articles about analysis. Even though you can set yourself up as a fool doing it. I have been so, so wrong interpreting poems in both the classics and here. But hey, if I can't be a fool I can't be a poet either.

I like this idea, and I feel the same way as many of you.My interpretation of someones work could be way off and I know I would like to better understand what the writer is saying.I hope they choose to do this.Thanks Raj, its a great idea.

I too am all for it! As an ex-English teacher, I would be happy to help out where I could - not so much in critiquing a poem myself (so much work has been done around great pieces!) - but researching what is out there in terms of analysis of a given poem. I would love to do some work on William Blake for example. Perhaps we could get certain members who were interested - to choose their own poem/poet and present a paper on it's content!

The copyright thing...almost all the works of poets long-dead are now in the public domain. For those that aren't, a quick asking for permission to use will almost always get a positive response, so long as you aren't making money from the work, in which case those who hold the copyright will demand that the piece be removed, or demand their cut. And making the right attribution, along with web links to copyright owners' sites, will almost always get you on their good side too!
And starting with William Blake...a good starting point also.
