The last time I had ice cream
I sat on a park bench
overlooking the canal,
reading poetry and remembering
our favorite flavors.
Yours, Neapolitan.
Zealous and diverse
swirls of color melting
into a bowl-like palette,
much like painting
with a spoon.
Mine, Pistachio.
The creamiest,
smoothest
flavor imagined
with the most wonderful name -
Puh-STA-shee-oh.
I raised my eyes
to look over the water,
a small drop of luscious green
dissolved onto the page below.
Even e.e.cummings
knew nothing so sweet.

Hi, Teddy
This was a happy write. I imagine there is a beautiful Italian pronunciation for Pistachio that you hear more often. One of my favorite flavors and words!
Thank you, Teddy!

I'm so glad!

I love this poem
especially the section about Neapolitan and the articulation of pistachio (although, I confess my least favorite flavor), and the vivid image of the melted green drop on the page. The only thought I have is the last two lines of stanza 4 seem unnecessary as the bowl-like palette already gives the painting image. Bittersweet!
Hello, Arrow
I will think about those two lines. They were definitely supposed to help with the image of painting. Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!
