Is this the end? Here I am;
moribund, motionless,
mind steeped in fatalism,
anticipating the approaching
end I perceive in hustling,
rushing doctors, their
emotionless faces concealed
behind surgical masks.
Bright light . . .
“Okay, on three . . .
now . . . heave-ho!”
Oh, fading skies of life!
Am I to be marooned
on a melancholic island,
entrapped by silence?
I close my eyes,
surrender to astral illusions.
Voices, images rise
and greet me as I emerge
from the dark abyss
Details come into focus--
groggily I mumble:
“When are you going to operate?”
“Oh--about an hour ago . . .
would you like a 7-Up?”

Having had...
a few operations myself, I can appreciate this one. An accurate description of waking up to ask; are we ready yet?
Even though we have been through it a couple of times, we somehow don't wake up asking how did it go? It's as though our selves, are trying to put the awareness of having been violated with sharp instruments in the 'forgotten' realm already. LoL
Your language was fine and I enjoyed the thought that I am not alone in wondering; "Are we there yet?" ~ Geez.

Hello, Jerry,
Exactly! I've been fortunate to have had only a few procedures, but you have precisely captured my thoughts and fears! Good title - maybe just a little TOO good!
Thank you!

Hello Sir Gee;
it seems that none of us can escape the surgeon's "vorpal blade" with which he does his snicker-snack, lol. Since you are an old veteran and survivor yourself, let me ask you this: have you experienced the pleasure of a good dose of "Twilight" aynesthesia?" Man, that's good stuff! No after-effects, and one has no recollection of falling asleep or awakening, and there is none of that nauseous feeling when one comes out of it. I cant wait to get under the knife again (heaven forbid).
Thanks for the comment. Stay healthy!
Van
Yes...
having COPD that is the preferred type of anesthesia by my doctors. I never have had a bad experience with it. Like you say; no headache, nausea or after-effects. ~ Geez.

Hello, Ms. Lavender;
it's good to see you here on Dr. Van's "Surgical Advice" page. Are you suggesting that I should put the title under my vorpal knife and give it a good whack or perhaps just a snip--which reminds me: I have to take my Tom cat to the vet to have him neutered. . . .
Thanks for your comment, dear Ms. Lavender. Jerry
