Notes on Forgiveness

Scott is dying in hospice
I think of him at this late time in his life
How he has found a way
to finally give something back, at least to me

His low place anchored
with misdeeds and transgressions
Still, he was loved by our mother

She was gone before him
In her absence, I looked after him
Food and other needed things

Anger made this an unwelcome burden at first,
while I still wandered in the fog of her loss
Urged on to help by the way she raised me

I became grateful for the tasks as time passed
They somehow made her absence less real
I felt her smile every time I reached out to him

I wish he could have been a better person
But in my mind, and unbeknownst to him,
he has been, again and again
As my gratitude goes out into the universe,
I hope he does not suffer

Geezer

this sounds like a prayer and a thanksgiving, for having found comfort in your own way. It sounds as though you have found the same peace that my mother found in taking care of her two, [yes, two] ex-husbands in the last years of their lives. They somehow found their way back to her, when they had no-where else to go; because of their misdeeds. I helped her with my father; but never really understood why she did it, until later when she explained to me as you have here. [She was an orphan and loved my grandmother as she would have loved her own mother.] I salute you and her for giving when many would not have bothered because of the abuse they had suffered at the hands of these men. I find no fault with either your work or your logic and reason. May you be blessed for the help and understanding that you gave.
