THE DIPLOMAT

The Diplomat

I've walked this path so many years
through hairpin turns and steep inclines,
often the way was filled with tears
and I've been tripped bob lies and vines.

Sometimes it seemed dead ends were rife
so I'd backtrack and go another way.
But isn't that the way with life?
different forks encountered every day.

And others that seemed promising,
smooth, gentle beneath a warm sun,
always managed to then bring
me back to where I had begun.

A few times I achieved my destiny
giving me a chance to rest
before heading to some other nation
to be faced with one more test.

All the delays and false starts,
every time was worth the worry;
to bring calm to warring hearts.
Peace is seldom attained in a hurry.
