I heard a fellow poet exclaim
that he could not bear another poem
about this blasted pandemic.
Not another, he had exclaimed again.
He asked if someone could please,
please,
write about something, anything else,
that doesn't confine the written word
to this poetry-inspiring pandemic.
Someone please, he had said,
write about
"...pixie sticks, for heaven's sake."
And so, to the frustrated, but lovely poet,
whom I hope has survived these months
ingesting and digesting pandemic-free
but more than likely, calorie-filled poetry,
I offer my verse:
Pixie Sticks
In general,
sugar-bombs
in a straw dressed
like a barber's pole.
Sweet like a puffed-up lie
to a narcissistic ear,
sour like a guttering promise
thrown out in the heat.
I peel the top off
a Blue Maui Punch
and pour the excitement
onto my eager tongue,
wondering what adventure
this day will bring.

Hi, Jerry
This was a random remark I read on a social media forum from a poet I do not know nor correspond with - and the point that was of interest to me was the request for a poem about anything, like - Pixie Sticks! I could not pass up the request. I did not know of your discontent, and in turn, hope I don't offend anyone.
Thank you so much for reading!

Hello, Chrys
I thought the request for poetry about pixie sticks was too fun and interesting, and it actually brought back a few fond childhood memories - all the pure sugar and horrible food coloring!
Thank you for your comments!

Yeah...
Pixie-Styx! I loved those damned things. I suppose that they or something very much like them are still around, since mankind still has the proverbial sweet-tooth. Yes, very good preamble too. Oh Damn, I just loved the whole thing. ~ Geez.

Hi, Mark
True - at least for a bit. (sigh) Next poem: Sweet Tarts!
Thank you!

Hi, Geezer
Is the name Sticks, or Styx...er, maybe is it Stix? I scratch my head. But such a fun, tasty topic. Thank you for reading and indulging with me!
L
I do believe...
it was Stix. ~ Geez.

The poem is entertaining, a bit offbeat. I especially liked your sweet and sour similes. the last two lines added extra flavor to the poem with its mind set.
Hello, T
A bit offbeat is a good description! Thank you very much for reading!
