Poetic Thoughts At Bobbie's Cafe - For JerryK

Ceramic containers
stuffed with sugar packs
patrol each table
like little white soldiers.

A long bar
tethered with ten swivel seats
edges the kitchen
like a rustic country fence.

Crowded booths
with vinyl upholstery
mingle in the dining area
like red bumper cars.

Strong coffee
freshly brewed and hot
flows from the carafe
like Sunday morning gossip.

Voices chortle,
plates clatter,
and the bell of the cash register
peals in the good fortune

from the loyal patrons
at the Sun City fine eatery
known kindly as
Bobbie's Cafe.

Thank you for reading! This was inspired by Jerry's comments in his "no title" poem.

the all the simile in this one. I can see the inside of the diner and see and hear the sounds of the regulars and the cooks yelling out " Eggs up with rye " The warm, smiling faces of the waitresses and the clatter of dishes being washed and stacked. I have spent many an hour in those diners while on the road as a "carney". The early hours of the morning were always the best of those days. Starved from the overnight travel and needing fuel, we stoked up on the "Trucker's Specials" and tipped as generously as our meager pay would allow. "See ya next year, Margie!" Great poem that brought it all back. Thanks. ~ Geez.

Jerry's diner brought back a few memories for me, too. Early breakfast was always the best. I take it that Margie was a prominent figure. Sounds like a great memory!
Thank you!

was just one of the hundreds of waitresses that I've met over the years. I was always an early-riser and late stayer-upper. Even after my "Carney" days. My best friend and I would get up and go to a diner for breakfast if we were going fishing or taking a trip. I love the moments just after dawn. Thanks for bringing all that back to me. ~ Geez.
