Pain is a permanent marker
undoable like stomach knots
unalterable like bad surgery
unremovable like coffee stains
unwanted tattoos tell the truth
Reminder of pain imprints in flesh
indelible ink writing on private parts
ingrained in memory like dirty rings around a tub
surgery scars reveal new skin
Entrenched in the brain
pushed to the back of the mind
pain recorded, hidden, collated, undeleted
recycled every 14 days
triggered by foul smell, bad tastes and bitter tea
badly drawn with a pen
forever and binding
Pain is a permanent marker

I certainly hope...
that you do not suffer the pain you describe. You are right, pain is a permanent marker. I don't think anyone forgets a deep pain; mental or physical pain can scar one for life. However, we should try to push it back and move on past it. Writing about it, helps. I felt this poem ran strong and with enough mental images to give the impression of a great deal of pain. ~ Geezer.

Hello Geezer
thanks for your concern, I was thinking more universally than myself but writing about it does help, if we can find the right words and imagery, that what I tried to do. Thanks again.
