Sufficient

Defined as:
enough
ample
adequate
plenty
acceptable
abundant.

Yet, in the back
of the brain,
something
scratches
the dust
with the
need to know:

in our struggle
for survival,
choosing between
competence
or love,
which will
suffice?

Back to the drawing board with this one since it is not clear! :) The question in the class (Psychology) was which was needed the most - competence or love. I will work on this to make it clearer as some sort of poetic thought.
Thank you!

I'm so glad you were able to squeak out the meaning here. Probably not quite finished if it remains unclear. I lean toward the side of love, also. But within the debate, realized lack of competence is a disaster.

Will probably change a few things here, but would like to keep as brief as possible.

Definitely a poem in progress. Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions!
I'll ponder a bit over the ending.
Thank you!

This question always stayed with me, mostly because of the spark it ignited. What seemed like a clear answer to me (love) became quite the debate when grasping at survival.
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!
