nice comparison of the two words love and trust you have made in this one liner...giving an underlying message that both compliment each other
do you think route would be a good replacement for cut?

All are good suggestions/alternatives raj, but I thought the use of "short cut" is a fresher use of the words, don't know if you agree with me

I do agree Rula but what is causing me a kind of a bump is the word "cut"... i don't know if you agree but i believe that though trust is important for it to blossom into love it needs to survive the test of time so i believe it can be a means [route] and not an end in itself....to me short cut equates with haste...know what i mean?

I see now what you mean. I think you need to read the "short cut" as a phrase to give the meaning that you suggested earlier which is "route". It has a totally different view than reading "short" alone and "cut" alone.
