Last night

I saw in the darkness
white cotton shadows
lurking about to find
if I were yet asleep

I knew the moment
my eyes closed
they will come and throttle me
so I switched on my bedside light
and wow I saw all of them vanish.

Phantoms came to me
since age five
but sad for them
they must still be hungry
for my life
I at 78 am still alive

daily they threaten me
then they laugh and cry
and say do you hear us
we only try to make a fuss
don't us curse
we have here only an empty purse
don't kill us

Excuse me please
they vanish
I get a newer lease...

I love the flippant nature of this, it somehow gives me hope that when I reach that grand ol' age I can still broach a smile and stick two fingers in the air, and, perhaps, write as well you.

Hi Lovedly
I think you are far too strong for those phantoms. Sounds more like you are playing with them then they are playing with you. I find this poem inspiring in a way.
