Trust now you've retired as a school teacher
who looked to me like a grammar preacher
kids just told me dad it's Intl grammar day
so sending to you these greetings today
i'm always flustered by all those crooked laws
why use those commas forcing one to pause
folks would exclaim when surprised or in pain
why show them where they ought to exclaim
I hope you're patient with kiddies at your home
not punctuating habits but letting them roam
it doesn't matter really if it's knife or just nife
grammar can killjoy use of slang in their life
times have kept changing in this fast paced life
yesterday's girl friend soon becomes a wife
so why use those tenses to define what is past
when today what's present ends up pretty fast
I remember your lesson about use of adjectives
made me coin for you some choicest expletives
if I'd shown them you would throw me outta school
but i was that wise crack and not a stupid fool
pages of my note book are full of funny scriptures
if you see them now even you would be in raptures
some captions below said what they were all about
like "Madam Hitler - though a wee bit too stout"
some keys on my board are now past their prime
like those comas and colons have faded over time
I know this letter makes no grammatical sense
but this ain't no any test so me not at all tense
please accept these greetings from your past student
if i have erred somewhere don't think me as imprudent
respectfully yours,
Comments
Another fine epistle dear raj
Another fine epistle dear raj and not without your special spices to set with some hidden sense of humor.
I especially enjoyed the fourth quatrain as I myself always found tenses a hard bite.
Anyway, whatever we say, we won't be who we are today without our teachers.
Blesss them all
Thank you for sharing friend.
hello friend Rula
thanks for the read and comment...good to know you liked the fun part and enjoyed this kind of a satire on how the present generation do not so much care about grammar...i don't no if in schools they have grammar classes any more...of course as mentioned in the last few words...i hold teachers in high esteem...
warmly...

A letter all should write to their "grammar" mentors
I loved the rhyme and that subtle sense of fun you brought to this Raj,
I wonder what "Miss Hitler" would make of your note to her - I am certain of one thing though - she would and should be proud of the writer / poet you have grown up to be.
Lovely use of rhyme (yes - I am repeating myself, yet I cannot help it as the rhyme is what sets the easy flow of this piece.
Great work and best of luck for the contest!
Yours in Script

Hi Feebie
thanks for taking time to read and your comment...actually rhyme is not my comfort zone since the search for an appropriate rhyme creates road block in the thought process...I'm therefore working on this though my preference continues to be free form...
why Hitler? well because like him the grammar teacher is tough like a dictator and when she walks up to the bench she is dreadful ...lol...
i may tell you that i haven't marked this for the contest....
best of luck to you...i see you have posted something...will check it out..
warmly...
