some thoughts
are like pancake batter
that hit the pan
of our brain
and always
become circular
we don’t know
where they start or end
but it’s only breakfast
other foods
you add more ingredients to
like onions or celery or carrots
a chopped
part of a conversation
or a quote
that makes you tear up
and then
you stew
there are your favorites
which you cook
again and again
maybe a familiar
chicken dish
or maybe a fish
you caught
on sale
those stories
you lived
and repeat
to yourself
effortlessly
then there’s the ones
you find on famous
cooking shows
and in renowned
cook books
that Alton Brown
or Paula Dean
make look
so appetizing
but which you must practice
for months and months
before you get
it right
and you definitely spice
everything
with salt and pepper
or cayenne
or cumin
to give it more
personality
to seal the deal
this time
in the kitchen
thinking
