FOR ONCE, TO SEE

I've sped this interstate before
with horses racing 'neath the hood
while thoughts of work pecked at my core;
no attention spared for field or wood.

But this afternoon the snow flakes swarm
clearing most traffic from my route.
I switch heater to hot from warm
attempting to keep the chill out.

Then suddenly I'm forced to slow
by a wave of sudden thick whiteout
and as I gradually cease to go
I take time to think and look about.

Dense deep woods crowd from either side
cloaked in a shroud of purest white
which blowing snow's trying to hide
and likely will before the night.

In a near blink the snow is past
and all is clearly on display,
all this beauty I've too often passed
while speeding on my merry way.

I'd rather stay but have to go
for there's much to do before day's done
so I start my truck in twilight's glow.
Tasks and time await no one.

this has the same colloquial feel as poems by Frost
I think you did a wonderful job at the update.
and by the way, the title is spot on.

"while thoughts of work pecked at my core;
no attention spared for field or wood." now isn't this just a true sign of modern life

This is the first time I've intentionally tried to write an updated version of an old master's poems so I'm pleased that you say I managed to maintain the original "feel" . Appreciate the visit.......stan

this poem is yet another example of creating the mood and images by someone who eats, breathes, sleeps and dreams in rhyme...your craft is one of its kind...FOR ONE'S LIKE ME TO SEE

Thank you for taking me to the world of snow and twilight it feels good for a change. Our summer kicked in with so much greenery that it is dark in my house. It is TWIGlight !!!

90 degrees here today. I wish for a bit of snow also lol. I know what you mean by the leaves at least blocking some sun from my home. I have 3 hundred year old oaks shielding me. Thanks for coming by....stan
