MALE CHILD

Kon ga, Kon ga Kon ga Kon ga
Kun du, Kun du Kun du Kun du
The ogene speaks in the hand of the priest,
With his one chalked eye of the gods
He dances in a circle like a cock approaching a hen
Hmnnnnnnn with a shake of his head, he sits.

Why will the gods inflict me with females?
The great hunter, and the best of farmers
I’ve married seven wives, still, the gods are silent
My name will not stop in my generation,
Eye of the gods if there's anything let them speak.

reincarnation,
with rains of chewed kolanuts-
and gins,
suddenly he stopped,
your great-grandfather defecated on the land
he was blessed with quantum’s of male children
the calabash he had broken,
and Nwoke the god of the male child he had withdrawn from his ancestor
he speaks with boldness coupled with his ogene

in curiosity, he laments
how do I appease the gods
in four EKE market days, you will be coming here with-
seven he goats, seven male kolanuts
seven hot gin for the priest
then go and mate with your wife.

Every child is equal
Male, female unique like the stars
for one hand does not wash clean itself
Let my mother sober if he has a male child
Let her dance if she has a female child
Let her block her ear with the baobab tree
For every child counts.

I would not even consider recording it myself.
Even if you just record it on your phone or laptop, save it as an Mp3 file and email it to me at jess.tapper@neopoet.com I could clean up the sound with Audacity and we could all hear it. Please do.

It is a magnificent poem and I would also love to understand it better.

What you don't know is that we don't see it the way you see it in your own world, we believe the gods give male child in the past, though is not common this days due to civilization and Christianity, and we do pour liberation's or appease the gods to get male child, this theory of yours can only be understood nowadays not in those days as the poem speaks.
