MAKE YOU VISION COUNT

We all have a vision
Knowing it is the mission
Seeing it is a decision
Grabbing it makes the conclusion

Time is a salient factor
Human a leading actor
Knowledge an indispensable rector
Wisdom a requisite director

Get your vision potential
Make that dream substantial
Acquire the skills essential
Then your worth becomes reverential

You cannot be too young to succeed
Although might be too old to proceed
Don’t make a thought to recede
Lethargic demeanor forces you to concede

Put your vision to work
Before you get a sudden shock
Never go off at half-cock
Lest you hit your head on a rock

I am noticing a lot of this type of poetry coming out of West Africa. Why is everybody telling everybody what to do? how to live? How to think? How to love? Soyinka does have some similar poems, but he always puts himself in the poem. It becomes personal.
As a young poet, i would suggest you follow his lead and start with your life, your experience. Forget assumptions that poetry is about telling "truths" like "Knowledge an indispensable rector" "You cannot be too young to succeed". That's not poetry, that's for a speech at a school commencement ceremony.
It is a long journey to look inside yourself and turn the chaos into poetry. Give it a try.
