Love from the radio
Bleeding hearts and tortured souls
Emotions with familiar fingers
Strumming my heartstrings
Come back to me
Take me down old roads
Pave the way with kisses remembered
And try not to spill tears on my shirt
Youth says it's forever and lies
Time races away invisible
Memories scramble for traction
Spinning their wheels in deceit
Yet the gentle caress of romance
Croons softly of Spring and love
I remember, I remember the chorus
I can sing it once more for you

Lovely poem
I really enjoyed this Gee. No crit to offer.
One thing, if it's for the contest, it needs May Contest after the title.

Hi gee
Yep, nothing like some old love songs to remind us of love........stan
strumming my heartstrings
what's better than those memories? Love repeating of I remember and many other lines. Thanks for this poem.
The only line which stalls me is "memories scramble for purchase/. I get the follow up, "spinning their wheels in deceit".The wheels work, as we are driving, being deceitful is something I can certainly relate to memory. I just don't see memories for sale, (or perhaps that is a whole other poem. Whose buying, and how are they bought or sold?)
I enjoyed the reading. Great subject. Paul McCartney nailed it too in "I always remember the songs we were singing"
I guess...
that I will look at that "purchase" line again. What I meant was that there was trouble in gaining "traction". ~ Gee.
.
Thank you...
for your extremely detailed and I'm sure, very apt critique of my poem. How very kind of you to add a Bravo. ~ Geezer
that works!
Yes, I think traction works, fits the wheels, fits the feel of the road. Glad to have helped!
I'm glad that...
you mentioned it. I was going for a rather British term in using purchase, as I had been reading some works of that nature. I didn't realize that it wouldn't translate well. Traction is a much better word. Thanks, ~ Gee

Hi Gee
Hi Gee
Purchase slipped me by when I was reading. Traction is better as in UK purchase just means to buy something, or as a noun, something that has been bought, Unless it was supposed to be per chance and good old spell check edited it for you. Does it to all the time, especially from my phone.
Another phrase I like and you may not, which is fine is 'memories jostle for position '
Cheers Jx
In the good, old...
F/W's Circa-1975. That's Funk and Wagnall's to you youngsters.
1]. To acquire by buying. by paying money or equivalent.
2]. The act of purchasing.
3]. A device that holds or grips something so as to prevent slipping, etc.
An example of the use here: He flailed about, trying to gain some purchase on the ice.
~ Gee.

Yes
Now you mention it, by George, I think you're right.
Stick with traction, it's good. Jxx
I will indeed...
stick with traction! [Intentional pun]. ~ Gee.

love words..
parents were bright but kept it simple
the worked tasks with others similar
the boss.captian foreman roadmaster
head nurse doctor
they leisure timed events with them
the human comraderie
i guess respect
I greatly get this poem
cause i drove much
and chummed with those
who did it well and enjoyed
music also
singing along with them to
mixed casettes
when they moved
city runs...
the old songs that do tug the
heartstrings are wonderful
the FM and stereo stations
that would be the surround
sound..still remember the
option of rear speakers..
side speakers...that FM kicking
in at night or day
and the loves of life we sang too
or comrades...
music the joy
sentiment of expression
i like the openess of interpretation
then specific
each can mold experience
about this read
Keep up the fine work

Mr Wolf!
My intent exactly...
We had our little rituals, one being to drive the old rural roads singing to the radio or OMFG! Eight-tracks, on a fine Spring day; the current and past love-songs. There was always someone who had been dumped or broken up and not yet in a new relationship, that would belt out the broken hearted and mangled mind tunes that meant something to that particular person. " Try not to cry on my shirt". But it was a great time to be alive. The smell of greenery, the bloom of plants and the soft breezes combined to make a person get ready for "Love" once again. Thank you Mr. Wolf, part time traveler, singer and brother. ~ Gee
yes...nothing like the re attraction of the old purchase on love
the old comx for some were the only real schooling and television
dialogue....twilight zone for me
and rat patrol...
we had marvel comix and spooky
and the turok son of stone
westerns..mystery and yes..
romance
all lent an air to that wild times
but some of the lingo and siloquy lines
were great
'on the crag they struggled beneath the
blaze of storm....each locked in combat
like the elements that hurled down its
impotent ease...beneath the slick slate
he lost his footing...tumbling and sliding
over the abyss....but somehow
in the fate of the gods...he grasped with
a might lunge and found purchase on
a stalwart stone of the cliff face and
clung there...knowing he would survive
if chance saw it fit!'
we had english fortnight comix....tin tin
and asterik...
eventually in high school my younger
brother also an artist would create a
comix strip of his pals and their adventures
and write short stories
and yes...the mid love songs
like Tommy Boy comedy when the Karen
Carpenter song comes on...
this write is something you have had to have
lived....nothing like driving with an arm about
a woman on a summers eve and yes
i had a little black custom ford short box
mercury truck...with eight track..we had
the optional cassette adapter....bought
from the electronic store BANKS BROTHERS
for thirty dollars then..a princely sum
one girl loved Frank Zappa and would sing
loudly to Basketball Jones
another loved Bowie
Ashes to Ashes which
a girl band covers well
it was used in a Lincoln Mercury ad
before Mathew McCoughnehy
Warpaint those girls went under..
Thank U Geezer!
You are welcome...
We had a store right next-door to us that had a used comic-book box. This was when new ones were still 10 and 12 cents. You could trade a new one for two older ones. Tony [the store owner] knew good business. He knew that when we came in, even if we bought used comics, that we would usually buy a soda, candy bar or chips. Yes, I got a lot of my values from the heroes in those books and a lot of reading skills too. I guess that the educators of my day must be spinning in their graves, knowing how much good those comics did, rather than destroying our brains. Always glad to share my experiences with you. ~ Gee.

I like how you thought of spring. Spring is inspirational indeed. You seem to have some lovely memories.
Well expressed.
