There's a red red rain
falling on our heads,
religious radiation
circling free thinking's bed.
Note the rickety nature of its wheel,
that delusional shit you think you feel,
personal illusion takes reality's place,
delivering unrighteous hatred
for every other face.
It singes all around us,
infecting every home,
mutation in mass numbers,
an evolution on its own.
Deforming minds of every kind,
squeezing science as it goes,
killing this one, that one, all in the name
of the god they choose to know.
There's a red red rain
falling on our heads,
ceremonial human fallout
leaving grey matter dead.

Hi Rula,
Thanks for commenting as I know
the content doesn't sit well with you.
you are a good person and appreciated,
Richard
Hello Richard
Nothing wrong with the content other than it has much
to remind me with all that goes around these days in
Gaza and Syria.
Much appreciate your kind words.
Richard
I think that this is a very good write, it scurries amongst the feelings that we have of mistrust and inability to correct things.
We just have to accept most things as they are but this piece tells it as it is, Yours Ian.T
Hi Ian,
Thanks for commenting. There are some things we have to
accept, like the flaws in our loved ones but that isn't what this
poem is about. It is about things we can change and should.
It is about the oppression of the many people due to the unified
doctrines of religiously ran nations, governments and yes, even
neighborhoods. It is about the ignorance of religion, thinking they
(insert any religion) are on god's side, and have the right to, either by
violence or law, forcibly remove basic human freedoms.
thanks again,
Richard
Howdy
It's always a pleasure to read free verse which unashamedly uses a lot of the poetic devices of traditional poetry like this one does. It is my personal opinion that the main problems with religions are caused by authority figures in the religions demanding that others all must have the exact same ideas as they hold. So you wind up with mullahs, ministers and priests condemning all other religions and in some instances calling for violence to be inflicted on "non-believers".......what a waste, what a sin. ..............stan
Hi Stan,
The real problem is that the masses believe it too,
without them, there would be no violence perpetrated.
We can say it's faulty leadership but the true fault is
people not using their own judgement.
Richard
Well written,
Well written, and how very true. Regards Roscoe...
Hi Roscoe,
Glad you liked it Sir,
thank you,
Richard
I agree ...
That when you have leaders in religion, then you get led in the direction they want you to go! Thank you, free-thinkers, for your support! -Gee
Hi Gee,
There truly are some questionable people in
most religions leading the flock, without asking
anything, that's the point.
thanks,
Richard
Hi Richards
Much has been commented by others on this poem and agree with those made by Stan & Gee. One can sense what could have inspired you to write this which I guess stems from what religious heads mislead the masses with twisted beliefs in the name of God which is sad...
Regards,
Hi raj,
I'm an atheist, that's partly my inspiration for
this poem but not entirely. I've long been studying
religions and their effects and while some good can
come from them, unification of people, helping the poor,
family orientations ... the one thing they all share is the
common intolerance/hatred for anyone that doesn't share
their particular belief, which to someone like me is a step
backward for humanity.
thanks for commenting and making me think about why
the poem was written.
sincerely,
Richard
That first stanza is a bloody bonzer!
It stands alone and could, all the rest adds the flesh that is determined to decay and fall off under religion's radiation.
Hi Jess,
Thanks man, I sort of figured you'd take a shine to this one,
or at least hoped you would.
stumbling as ever,
Richard
You made me think
Your first stanza is powerfully written and made me stop to think about my views on religion. I consider myself to be spiritual but not religious. I've always believed that religions are the cause of most of the trouble in our world today, as well as in the past. Fortunately growing up, it wasn't 'shoved down my throat' so to speak, so I was allowed to formulate my own beliefs. My dad was funny about it. He said that because Jesus was Jewish, everyone was Jewish. In order for there to be peace in the world, people feeling united, the only way it could/can happen, which I doubt it ever will, is for all of us to realize no one is better than anyone else, and we all have a place here. But unfortunately that's an idealistic point of view, and there are too many religious leaders out there ready to infiltrate peoples minds with their beliefs and threatening to harm those who don't go along. The thing that has never made any sense to me is that if in fact there's supposedly one God, then shouldn't He be the common bond between everyone?
As you can tell your poem hit me in a strong way, which is the reason for this rambling review.
Best wishes,
val
Hi Val,
Wow, Thank you for looking at my works,
it was a great surprise. Glad it stirred you
to comment, lovely when that happens.
I agree, if there is one god, it seems it
would be all inclusive (everyone's god).
thank you, one of my favorite subjects,

Read it once through to get an emotional base for the poem. Your use of words is powerful, but the theme is absolutely riveting. More and more of us feel this way. Religion has for the most part become a paranoia infected obsession. Not a means of worshiping our/the higher power. Loved the poem it was strong and unyielding!! That's my take on it!!
Thank you,
I appreciate you reading my work and
commenting. This is a topic I'm passionate
about, that sometimes helps make it a
halfway decent poem.
hello Richard,
as you probably know, I am anti-religion having suffered religious abuse at the hands of my Grandmother, when I lived with her as a child. the church doesn't want any free thinkers. so I was constantly in trouble! these are my favorite lines:

My personal view...
is that if we all lived according to the 'Golden Rule', there wouldn't be any need for organized religion. Thanks for the thought provoking re-post of this work. ~ Gee.
