CALM BEFORE THE STORM

The presents are wrapped beneath the tree
cookies set out for Santa (me)
All the shopping's finally done
for everyone, even grandson.

The colored lights are on outside and in
stockings hung with stuffers crammed within
where upon the mantle sits
two nutcrackers in their gay outfits.

And here we sit, my wife and I.
We look about and then both sigh
with memories of Noels past.
All came and then went by so fast.

Words for us are hardly needed
when body languages are heeded
while we watch "Christmas Story" one more time
and I try to write a yule time rhyme.

all is quiet this Christmas eve.
the biggest gift which we'll receive
all will arrive on Christmas day
when family comes to spend the day.

Geezer

that you are warm and safe in the arms of your spouse on these cold winter nights. There is nothing grander than having family to warm the cockles of one's heart on these holidays! [What the hell are cockles, anyways?] Made me feel warm and fuzzy, Stan. Seasons' Greetings! ~ Gee
