TIME MACHINE

The old man sits there in his chair.
He's tired of sitting but he knows
it hurts to rise and go elsewhere
so he stays ... the blue ink flows.

By writing he can turn back time
to a past when he was young and hale
and gave no thought to verse or rhyme
or the telling of a long life's tale.

On paper his mind is young and free,
a five mile jaunt just a short walk.
He goes anywhere he'd like to be
be it a stroll or careful stalk.

He calls back loved ones now long passed
to join him on the lined white page.
Their visits always end too fast;
the fate of those who reach old age.

The old man sits there in his chair
stalking time with his ink pen
he sits there in that old worn chair
and tries to capture youth again.

The twist in the subject is excellent. I wish my 94 year old father in law had something... anything like that.

Now I'm thinking you are giving me "pity reads" for stuff I've posted with no comments lol. I just tried to imagine myself a few years from now and this spilled out.........stan

Esker

9 years 4 months ago

my old and grey
some smiles
some hisses
my horn and halo
showing
taking oaths upon
my shoulders
like my age
owing

fifty two and it came none too
quick

I enjoy your love of the woods
and forest where there is much
peace. sustenance
and the cycles to see
the creeks to sing
soothing
friends as U say whom
we share time with
they carry me now
those fires we poked
with sticks sitting for foil potatoes
in cold octobers
or the woodstoves flickers
out of tales
the chairs propping us up
age isnt a defiance now I see
but a dfenition of character
how I have all that I need
to put this together
no longer the great rebel

thank U for your poems
they remind me too remember

Lease of Life
Last night I was feeling cold,
nearly dead
they said wake up
yesterday’s dinner is being laid
I asked to be served in bed

No you are not dead yet
wake up get dressed
and the car is on its way
we will go to Molina Rouge
your ribs
we will all eat

It gave me another lease
today I went to yet another free feast
and have added years to life
how many more years will be my strife?
can't wish it
but I will ask for more, ribs of animals and buttered chicken
as you want to make me live
so keep your purse well insured
and also save for charity to give

lovedly

As you know well ...so many dawns we lived, do tell ...
we ate to live then
now as our ribs bring about strain ...nothing between lips does remain
you know the remaining dawns we will live...
to eat only
what of ribs
I will be In BBQ next to you this Xmas
will not have turkey
but will eat your ribs lovely

No, not yours
the ones you offer gladly
and I shall massage your knee
with sympathy
soon you will walk alongside with me
as Stan you are a brave man
and friends like you I love

O man
rare breed like you
as if you were alongside
Mississippi or Hudson maybe

ribs I will eat gladly
keep them ready
I will be soon around surely
at Xmas maybe BBQ
which ?

The seven ages of Man well you is bordering on the 7th age so take more care.. lol
A good write, but for you to stay at home instead of telling us of places you can see in that memory, or with the travels of the mind, well you were a lazy boy.
The forest of the universe calls you to watch its day to day evolvement.
Take care, I nearly sent you a food parcel but then realised this is fiction lol.
Yours Ian..

I figure everybody is likely tiring of my same old nature poems so I throw out something different once in a while. Now I gotta see if I can write something for the December contest lol........stan
