This is big! The biggest idea I have heard here yet (even bigger than the number count thing... that's big... I mean really big).
I whole heartedly endorse the idea. I want to be in it and I want multiple copies.
I think you (Scribbler) will make a marvelous editor.

S

The editing will be a team thing. I'm not well enough versed in all the types of poetry to edit most kinds. I'm thinking about "Not Ready For Prime Time Poetry" for a title in case the powers that be decide they don't want Neopoet to be used in the title. What do ya'll think?.........stan

Sparrow

It has been a few years now that I have asked Neopoet for a book to be published from the site, and I had started to collect poems to be inserted after approval.
This needs the poems author to agree that his/her work can be published. There is a need for something around 50 pages and that means around 94 poems, then publishing costs will make each book around $20- $25 US
Each of the authors if they purchase one copy, the cost would be covered plus extras for Neopoet, I have written for this type of printing many times and am in 48 books but I have around 8 here, they make great presents for our children, so I support Stan all the way, just a few weeks and we can see what the situation is called for, Yours as always, Ian..

wesley snow

Many of the poems will (they must) take more than one page. I think one of the editing goals in the beginning is that a given poet is allotted a certain amount of "space".
If we were in Washington we would form a committee.
I'm hoping NeoPoet is included somehow as part of the book's purpose is PR.
Isn't it?

S

Since the publisher charges per page in addition to the initial down payment there will be no room due to cost for semi-epics. Unless the poet wants to pay the cost per page of any long stuff they submit.
The involvement of the site owners will be limited to choosing whether to allow the use of "Neopoet". I intend to present them with a done deal. We have been waiting since before the major site crash for a book of poets here to benefit the site and I fear we would still be waiting 3 years from now if we wait for the bosses to move on this............stan PS I'm NOT pissed off at the owners, I'm just ready to get things going. The book, if it's done should help the site both monetarily and in getting the word out that this site is something special. ..............

Support the idea and ready for any help needed.

I mean a poem that uses up two or three pages. Since this is in central column form (I assume) a very short poem can take up a lot of space. Are we "paying" by poem or by the full volume regardless what is on each page? I have many questions. I need more data.
And NeoPoet must be at least involved on the cover. That's the whole point. It is a NeoPoet production.

S

have a few questions yet to ask publisher. Most pressing is likely "how many lines, including title, can one expect to be able to fit onto one page? As for the writers having to pay for having their write(s) included it is my intent that it cots them nothing for a poem which takes 2 or fewer pages. A Lot of the poetry on site is about 5-6 stanzas so that should be easily contained in even a single page (I hope). But if somebody really really wants to post something like "In January" then they should be willing to help bear the expense of posting a poem over 2 pages long don't you think? I, of course , can post as long a poem as I want because the expense is all mine anyway lol. But $6.00/page will limit even me.

The profit will be in the sale of books not in the initial publishing and the cost per book will be determined by the number of pages ........stan PS As to Neopoet being included, I want that but the decision will be theirs, not mine. Last time I tried to do a Neopoet E-book, I was slapped down by the owners and the project was put on an apparent permanent hold. THIS book, if the decision to proceed is made Will be done. Preferably with Neopoet's support and name but with or without, it will be done and the profits will be sent to Neopoet.

China Blue

A chap book is 30 poems or less and even paing for it most publishers will not touch you will need a publisher that agrees to printing a chap book and it is my experience that most frown in fact in their criteria they will state no chap books

we tried this once before without much interest or success on several other occasions and the idea seemed to fizzle out like much else here I'm just disillusioned over anything new . I'm really not for the idea simply because fine it is a way to generate income for Neo poet but it will cost us I'm not against anyone that likes the idea I just see a lot of obstacles

Some may say it is because I come and go that I don't sucked in pulling anything off well you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. If people are not interested they just aren't
besides I had legitimate reasons and most were health issue

but that is another tangent I went off on because I heard rumors flying again

If you do not like something anything or everything the in the way I do things bring it to me directly

anyway I wish you luck and yes although I do not care for this whole idea if there is anything I can do to help those that wish to participate just let me know

S

I already have the publisher lined up for a chap book like book of about 50 poems. In the past the project was turned over to an official neopoet committee where it languished and died. In this instance the committee will consist of myself and 3-4 other volunteers. The cost of publishing will be born by me and the owners will be presented with a done deal so their only decision will be whether or not to allow the Neopoet name to be associated with the book, not whether or not the book proceeds. And the decision on whether I proceed and put my own money into the project is dependent on the members' response to this blog. The main question is whether members would buy a book with their and/or friends' poetry in it..........stan

wesley snow

I am willing to stand behind him and push. I not only think it is a good idea for NeoPoet (and should be done multiple times if possible), but it also sounds exciting for the poets on site. I am not a published author. It would tickle me no end to own a book with some of my poetry in it.
For many poets I suspect that would be enough incentive.
I'm all in. Ask me for help. If I can give it I am on it.

Roscoe Lane

Great idea Stan, I'll help in anyway i can. Regards Roscoe

S

The main question at this point is whether you and others would be willing to buy such a book. I intend to buy for both myself and family and even buy some to donate to local libraries......stan

S

I would expect most here would buy something if it has one of their own poems in it............stan

wesley snow

Christmas is a taxing time for me... what to get them? To have the answer given to me is a blessing and fun as hell.

Also, if you will let me, I certainly would like to be one of your three or four volunteers. I'm ready to work for this to happen.

O Niagara

your flow of water is eternal all know
the world divides into two as
Bill Clinton once said
Those who have seen the Taj Mahal of India
and
those who haven't...

I wish he had so said
about something as near home
as the Niagara Falls
put to shame as natures gift of natural wonders

the flow is constant
millions of tonnes fall per second
even in winter
Save in a rare year
Niagara also freezes
so does my heart

The Queen of mist smiles
But Ah! At last
when all water comes to rest
at minus something, something
men can walk across the fall
as for some only twill be an everlasting memory

come see Niagara through my eyes
I will post original snaps
but my cell got lost
in the Niagara mist
How sad!
WELL WELL WELL I FOUND IT HOW GLAD!

Sparrow

We visited Niagara Falls one winter while working in Ottawa, it was Minus 10 at the time, there was NO mist, Loads of icicles on the American falls and heaps of snow and Ice in the basin where the main falls fell, I think that this would have been one of the best times to visit it was astounding.
I took pictures from the lift on the outside of the Skylon, a sight never forgotten though a few years ago now, I have a trade Dollar from that day and the tickets silly ole me saves everything lol.
One of the natural wonders of the world..
This comment would tidy as a good poem, so have a go at it before you stream it,
Yours Ian..
PS:- once again this morning NO comments on any of my writing, a couple more days like this and that will be me not wanting to waste anymore time on Neopoet, as you always say other sites, even Face Book gets better reviews.

S

on whether to proceed has not yet been made so don't go and submit anything yet.......stan

China Blue

your call Stan I'm here if anything is needed

S

I hope to reach a decision about proceeding second half of this month. This is not something to be taken on lightly.........stan

S

I have decided there is enough interest to pursue the book project. However there has been a delay in some funding I was counting on so we will have a month or two more time to get book committee and submissions together. I will be requesting 3 poems which the authors deem their best. Not all 3 will be used in all likelihood but it will give the editing group a good starting point. So get your thinking caps on so you will have them ready when requested. I'll be contacting those who I'd like help from within 2-3 weeks. There will be no shame if I ask and you refuse because I'm aware that a lot of time will be involved in this project. BTW, as a bonus to those who work on this project they will be guaranteed a min. of two of their poems in the book..............stan

L

I wouldn't mind at all putting a poem or two in a NeoPoet book but as I am not a regular reviewer or critiquer, as you would have it, I don't suppose i qualify anyways.

S

to become a more active member. As I said there has been a slight delay in funding so there's time to qualify and I'd love to see a poem or two from you........stan PS a member can be active without having to give deep critique

Sparrow

I am here to assist in any odd jobs, it is not a worry for me to be in the book but it would be nice, my time for your enterprise will be here as you ask.
Will talk more as we progress.
Yours as always, Ian..

i gave an idea to a USA Lady poet
to include some of others poetry
for free
she earned 5000 dollars
said she
and got her dentures free
from her poetry
hurray

S

Time for you and others to start going through your works and deciding which 3 to submit when asked. As to money, I intend to finance the publication myself and not take any profits save the initial $200 seed money it will take to get things rolling. And even so, this initial investment will not take all of the initial income but , rather, only 40% with the remainder going to site the 100% after the initial cost is recovered. I intend to bear the per page additional cost entirely and never be reimbursed for that part.........stan

May more folks like you

we gasped with awe
how only Stan saw the future of Neopoet
we all are selfish only
look at Ian and Stan
they are the two pedestals
upon which Neopoets can stand

Loved the anony mystery
can only say boldly
Stan and Ian
I am along with thee

it’s only like Loved or Lovedly
flowing besides the Hudson,

so come along
post your poems in advance
take no chance
its a poetic romance
yes for free
just donate some luscious poetry
Let the whole world wide web

I appreciate both your activity here for so long as well as your willingness to help. I'll definitely keep you in mind while putting the team together..........stan

Great idea Stan from your fertile mind. Best wishes for a successful venture

Regards,

S

The success of this book project will depend upon the team I assemble and the poems the contributors enter much more than my minimal skills..........stan

R

I know what you mean Stan, but the fact is that your gesture to do it in itself is laudable and to bear all the publishing costs demonstrates the largeness of your heart. Having said that, the humble man that you are, I know you do it with a sincerity of the purpose.

Warm regards and best wishes,

I am exploring the possibility of publishing a book of poetry by various poets here. The ones chosen will have to be active in both posting and giving commentary. All profit from the sale of the book will be turned over to site. I anticipate a "chap" type paper back book containing about 50-60 poems. But I will not move forward in doing this unless this blog gets a good response.

Imagine being able to buy a book with your and friends' poetry in it. Would make a good gift or even a donation to the local library! So sit around and think about this and whether you want to be in the book. And remember Inactive Members Won't Be Included. { BTW, it's my intent to bear the full cost of publishing if this draws enough interest to proceed}................stan
