Memorial Day
Since first our nation came to be
bequeathed by sons of liberty
in many conflicts blood was shed
in many places rest our dead
on native soil or foreign lands
they paid what freedom oft demands
that all give some and some give all
so that democracy stands tall
the cause has not been always right
but still our bravest went to fight
to sacrifice for those less strong
surely cannot be so wrong
war is hell and will so be
throughout mankind’s redundancy
but always there are those who give
their live’s so others yet may live
and so we set aside this day
to remember and to pray
for the souls of heroes slain
so that they did not die in vain

this is exquisite and captures the essence of Memorial Day spot on.....perhaps having been a soldier allowed you to express it so nicely...a great response to the appeal made by Stan....
Regards,
Thank you raj,
Your taking the time to read this and leave feedback is greatly appreciated and welcomed!

Your words are eloquent, yet I live with your pain and die a thousand deaths each time you shout out in your sleep , or cringe, or fight. war is hell as you have stated on this day we remember not only those you gave the ultimate price but those that are left to struggle with the memories and horrors they have experienced. with less and less coming from the same government that sent them to these places But I am not going to get on my soap box here I just wanted you to be sure you knew I am behind you
Thank you Dear,
Yes, you know all too well what goes on in an ex-soldier's mind! I felt compelled to write this one, even if few are reading it. Thank you so much for being there for me both as a poet, and a wife!
Ive read this ...
takes awhile to come back and put words down....Same with others too..ITs nice too hear
that others are reading..and that sometimes its hard to write a response that is both
affirmation and creative helpful as we are a Family here...
This is a great work about ones experience and reflection on a recognized holiday set
down long ago. Its straight up and forward and neither mocks nor embellishes but
respectfully and tastefull expressives the Poets feelings!
Thank You Lonnie for your poetry
And for the service for your country!
Respectfully, Mr Esker!
Thank you Stephen
For your read and the kind words. Hope all is well with you up North!

Those that gave their lives that we may be, are always foremost in every mind.
It is so hard for those that returned to try and live that life they gave us.
Another hell of fright and reliving those days and nights that never ends, I have met those that gave more than their all, to have to live as they do and revisit those places time after time.
I only wish that the people that were responsible would see that those that suffer are looked after more.
My love and thoughts go out to you, and those that walk with you, that they may find a quiet that can last..
Yours as always, Ian
Thanks Ian,
Those sentiments are indeed welcome! Hope you and yours are doing fine across the pond!
